Though the Clemson coach disagrees with the assertion, my Clemson vs. LSU prediction sees Dabo Swinney’s team as an afterthought heading into Week 1 against Lane Kiffin’s much-publicized No. 11 LSU.

But that could be just what Clemson needs to sneak past the radar as it tangles with this lofty spread. LSU is favored by 10.5 points, with the action kicking off from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC).

Under 50.5 (-108 via DraftKings)

Though it’s difficult to compare much about college football teams from year to year, last season’s matchup between LSU and Clemson favored the defenses in a 17-10 final. Clemson games went Under at one of the highest rates in CFB last year (3-8-2 on Over) while contests involving LSU were also heavy Under leans (4-9 on Over).

Clemson should be strong on defense again this season, and with all the distractions surrounding LSU, I wouldn’t be surprised by a sluggish start early before Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt pushes the Bayou Bengals forward in the scoring department.

While I expect the game to remain within the 10.5-point spread, another successful angle on the Under would include LSU blowing out Clemson, with the latter unable to contribute much to the total.

As of publish time, we’re seeing the total at 50.5 across our top sportsbooks, but you can gain an edge betting Under at DraftKings (-108) relative to FanDuel (-115) and elsewhere.

📡 SBR EDGE

Swinney’s Clemson Tigers ranked fifth in FBS in producing Under results last season (3-8-2 on Over).

Kiffin tempo will eventually wear down Clemson’s D

A massive coaching difference between last year’s LSU regime is the tempo. In 2025, the Tigers ranked 117th in plays per game offensively (63.8), while Kiffin’s team at Ole Miss ran 73.4 plays per game, 13th in FBS.

Though Clemson’s defense weathers the initial storm, Kiffin’s onslaught will become more than the road Tigers can handle in this environment. The tempo shift and explosiveness of the LSU offense does result in a higher-scoring affair than we saw last season in the other Death Valley.

Score prediction: LSU 27, Clemson 20
