My Boston College vs. Cincinnati prediction sees a desperate situation developing for Bill O’Brien as the Eagles turn to a DII transfer at quarterback to right the ship following a 2-10 season.

After Brendan Sorsby’s high-profile departure, Cincinnati welcomes a new era at QB, too. In a game that features the Bearcats favored by 7.5 points, the action kicks off from Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (FOX).

In a matchup that features two offensive-minded head coaches in urgent need of a strong start to the campaign, I like the points on Saturday in Cincy.

Bill O’Brien is expected to turn to Saginaw Valley State transfer QB Mason McKenzie, the reigning GLIAC Player of the Year (Division II). The 2024 winner of that same award? Trinidad Chambliss, before his FBS breakout at Ole Miss.

The dual-threat gunslinger will oppose Cincinnati’s replacement for Sorsby, JC French IV, who made a name for himself at Georgia Southern before his transfer into Scott Satterfield’s program.

This total has dropped like a rock after opening at 53.5. Down to 49.5 (-112 on Over) at FanDuel, this movement makes me even more eager to attack the Over in a game environment that should favor offenses.

BC’s defensive turnaround will take time

New Boston College DC Ted Roof should have the defense in better shape than the group he inherited, but BC had one of the worst scoring defenses in FBS last season, allowing 34.8 PPG.

This isn’t the week that I expect the Eagles’ overhaul to show up against the Bearcats’ quality offensive system. Cincy’s French IV should attack downfield and find some favorable conditions, provided the offensive line holds up against a revamped Eagles’ pass rush.
