Baylor vs. Auburn Prediction: College Football Week 1 Opening Odds & Early Pick
Last Updated: September 4, 2026 6:59 PM EDT • 2 minute read X Social Google News Link
My early Baylor vs. Auburn prediction looks to back the Tigers after they brought in Alex Golesh to overhaul an offense that struggled mightily last season.
Auburn enters as a 6.5-point betting favorite and should be in position to take advantage of a Baylor team that failed to reach a bowl game in 2025.
Kickoff is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with coverage on ABC.

Auburn -7 (-112 via DraftKings)
Alex Golesh takes over at Auburn, bringing QB Byrum Brown along with him after the duo orchestrated a USF scoring offense that averaged the fifth-most points per game in FBS last season (38.6 PPG).
Offense was the problem at Auburn, so Golesh should represent a 180-degree turn while the Tigers maintain their defensive dominance, with defensive coordinator DJ Durkin being retained. Durkin’s unit ranked 29th in scoring defense last year, despite the offense providing virtually zero respite to a defense that always seemed to be on the field, doing the heavy lifting.
I’ve seen Baylor QB DJ Lagway against SEC defenses and I came away with the reaction that I don’t trust him. The talent is there, but he is mistake-prone, throwing 14 interceptions with four fumbles in 2025.
I like Auburn big in this one, so we want to grab this line at -7 from DraftKings before it moves any further. The Tigers opened at -6.5.
🔬 SBR Edge
At Florida last season, Baylor QB DJ Lagway had three SEC games in which he threw multiple interceptions.

Baylor vs. Auburn line movement
We’ve seen some initial movement in Auburn’s favor, to between -7 and -7.5 across a few of our best sports betting sites. With a relatively even split at 52% of total wagers on the Tigers, that indicates some sharp money has poured in to move the lines.
I’m looking to find sportsbooks that still list Auburn at or below a margin of a touchdown plus the extra point, so the early movement has me avoiding certain spots to ensure I don’t catch a bad number.
