My Arizona State vs. Texas A&M early prediction doesn’t view Cutter Boley as a capable quarterback to lead the Sun Devils against a strong SEC defense.

The lofty opening odds for No. 8 Texas A&M (-14.5) aren’t enough to turn me off the Aggies. The action kicks off from Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, Saturday at noon ET (ABC).

In Arizona State’s 70-7 win over Morgan State, Kentucky transfer QB Cutter Boley put on a show, logging 387 passing yards and six touchdowns. But last season, we saw SEC defenses clamp down on Boley to chase him from the conference, so I’m not overreacting to his opening performance in the context of facing the Aggies in Week 2.

Texas A&M mowed down an upstart FBS foe, Missouri State, 50-0 in its opener. The Aggies still have Marcel Reed’s dynamic ability at QB, and the defense looked stupendous in Week 1. Seven of Texas A&M’s wins last season came by a margin greater than this spread.

With the spread at Texas A&M -14.5, we’re happy to play it at this line or wait early in the week to see if the spread movement continues to trickle toward Arizona State. If movement levels out and shifts back the other way, I’ll play this spread to -15.5.

We’ve seen slight movement compared to the opening odds. Texas A&M opened at -14.5 with -110 odds, but we’re now seeing the Aggies at -105 on that same spread.

With this early movement, I’ll consider watching the line and waiting to see whether it shifts closer to the key number of -14, or at least close enough to consider buying the half point to get to that line.
