The legal Canada sports betting market has been limited to just one province. Still, it hasn't stopped sporting entities from signing on with wagering providers supporting a booming Ontario sports-betting business. Their efforts are also likely aimed at aligning their ducks for the seemingly inevitable expansion of sports wagering nationwide as our best sports betting apps continue to seek expansion.

The latest partnership has been signed between Canada's #1 sports broadcasting network, Sportsnet, and Sportradar, which touts itself as " a leading sports technology company creating immersive experiences for fans, positioned at the intersection of the sports, media and betting industries."

The newly formed relationship gives fans of the sports network innovative and critical proprietary, data-driven statistics, including digital graphics and in-depth research content that will help not only those taking advantage of the best sportsbooks in Canada but will also provide stats for the average fan of the games broadcast on the network.

"We are proud to partner with Sportsnet, a market leader, who is committed to entertaining and informing Canadian sports fans," said Brian Josephs, Head of Regional Sales, North America, at Sportradar. "This collaboration showcases Sportradar's expertise in enhancing sports content through data and technology. Together, we will bring fans closer to the action, providing them a unique, more engaging viewing experience."

More on the deal

Sportsnet had some catching up to do with other North American networks already providing real-time stats, player bios, and team statistics relevant to sports bettors and the average sports fan, eager for more information on their favorite teams and players.

The sports broadcaster gets the full suite of industry-best Sportradar products, including vital real-time stats, player and team information, and advanced data to be used on all of Sportsnet’s platforms, including Sportsnet.ca.

Sportradar's presence will be especially felt during Sportsnet's NHL and MLB broadcasts.

Since the explosion of legal sports betting content on the North American scene, sports fans have demanded enhanced, in-depth statistics on players, teams, and leagues. Leagues, sportsbooks, and networks that air the games have all strived to provide customers with the most relevant and up-to-date stats as part of their evolving "fan enhancement" opportunities.

This week’s Sportsnet/Sportradar deal is just the latest sign of the need for more information for the sports and sports wagering fan.

The Sportsnet reach

Sportsnet in Canada has become the #1 sports broadcasting network in the country. The network has a virtual monopoly over NHL broadcasting and is the official home of Canada's MLB team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

It was a necessary step for Sportsnet to bring their viewers the most cutting-edge statistical products on the market. Sportradar was a willing participant and one that will be felt immediately by the Sportsnet viewer.

For now, only those taking part in the Ontario sports betting scene will be able to benefit from the legal sports betting expertise that Sportradar brings to the table. Hopes are that other provinces catch on, legalize their own sports wagering platforms similar to those offered by Ontario sports betting apps, and can ultimately take advantage of the full range of products Sportradar offers.
