Odds for The Masters Move Following Results From The PLAYERS

This year’s editor of the PLAYERS Championship was a five-day grind for both the golfers and bettors, and it ended with Cameron Smith winning $3.6 million, building on his already fantastic start to the season and also significantly shortening his odds for The Masters next month.

Remember, Smith set a PGA Tour scoring record at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January with a -34.

He made 10 birdies and fired a final-round 66 to win by one stroke at TPC Sawgrass on Monday, March 14.

The 28-year-old Australian has had a lot of success at Augusta National Golf Course, too. Smith finished 10th last season, and he was runner-up in 2020. Add a fifth-place finish in 2018, and it’s easy to see why sportsbooks dropped his already short odds for The Masters even lower.

With Smith’s odds shortening, sportsbooks did shift a few other favorite’s numbers accordingly.

Here’s a peek at the most notable line movements at FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook and Caesars Sportsbook.

Course familiarity is always a focal point ahead of The Masters, as Fuzzy Zoeller was the last rookie to win at Augusta National in 1979.

With that in mind, it was a little surprising to see Dustin Johnson’s number climb at all three sportsbooks. He’s had a ho-hum stretch since winning the 2020 Masters, but he tied the TPC Sawgrass course record in the final round of The Players Championship with a nine-under 63 on Monday.

Additionally, at this stage of Johnson’s career, looking to peak for The Masters is probably his No. 1 priority over the next four weeks. His odds to win might not be this high again.

Caesars boosted the odds of another former Masters champ, Patrick Reed, and he’s also coming off a respectable 26th-place finish at The Players. Reed has two other top-10 finishes at The Masters to go along with his 2018 victory.

It’s also worth highlighting the line movement of major-winners Shane Lowry and Gary Woodland. Both golfers saw their numbers shift significantly, and both have flashed the game to win of late.

Woodland had consecutive fifth-place finishes before missing the cut this weekend at The Players, whereas Lowry finished second at The Honda Classic and 13th at The Players.

Futures shoppers should definitely look for the best available number and continue to monitor the lines, as they’ll continue to shift leading into Round 1 of The Masters on Thursday, April 7.
