#2944Well the day started nice with de Veigy winning. Crivoi played terribly in both tie breaks and lost in a 3rd set breaker. Duckworth just got beat by a total chump, so down the tubes after a nice start. Good luck with your WTA plays. Sticking to Challenger stuff early this week.Comment -

St.Brieuc Challenger: Jouan +125
The home standing Frenchman surely isn't known for his clay court play, but Gimeno-Traver looks like a lost soul with just one win in eight matches in 2012. In late 2011, DGT rolled to several Challenger finals in a row with one title - but since has not recaptured anything close to that form. Jouan is a big server, so if his serve is solid, he rates a shot here even on a non-preferred surface. Jouan did score a few wins on the Challenger circuit last year on dirt against some of the veteran dirtballers ... so he's not without a chance.Comment -

#2949Tallahassee Challenger: Ball +150
Ball is up against talented Canadian Pospisil. Pospisil retired from his last match in Le Gosier last week. Cannot find the exact nature of the retirement, but that + Ball beating him in Aussie qualis this year have me siding with the lefty. Reading around, it appears that Pospisil had a lot of trouble reading Ball's serve in that match earlier this season. Ball has been slumming on the Futures tour lately, so he'll need to rev his game up.Comment -

Tallahassee Challenger: Odesnik +110
Odesnik has been out since February. Becker has been playing to rebuild his ranking and been reasonably well off. Still don't see as much of a difference as the price suggests. For all Becker's attributes, he's still a 50%-er on hard stuff mostly. Odesnik really got on a roll on outdoor hard courts in 2011 at this level and this tournament was really his lift off point with the 1st of his three Challenger Finals appearances coming in Tallahassee.Comment -

#2954I'm not messing with WTA for at least a round. I don't like playing surface switches on the WTA side. ATP I feel more comfortable because there are usually a clear class of clay courters and the South American swing makes it less awkward to forecast. WTA nothing really to see before they get on the stuff. I'd be careful with either of them, especially Serena who looked like shit in her last match + Vesnina seems to play pretty well at this tourney. They might roll, but I don't see a benefit of laying the juice really.Comment -

#2960Parlay: Hercoq + Jaziri [+106]
Trying this one instead. Jaziri has a solid match-up against Arnaboldi. Jaziri started strong this tournament against another Italian with a straight sets win. Clay isn't his preferred surface, but he made a Challenger final on the surface last year showing he has some chops on dirt. Hercoq has the experience edge over Lepchenko. Lepchenko isn't without a chance as you look back at her clay season in 2011 that included a win over Pennetta at the French Open. Still, Hercoq has shown more on the surface, including winning a title last summer.Comment -

Tallahassee Challenger: Dutra Da Silva +175
Da Silva is a better clay court player, but he's not lost on hard courts. He normally plays best on his home turf in Brazil, but has shown some varying success in the last year in other places as well. Smyczek is a Challenger regular, but far from unbeatable. He's hit and miss as his track record indicates, capable of beating some ATP regulars - but also capable of flopping at this level. Smyczek could roll, but I think this is going to be a battle.Comment -

Tallahassee Challenger: Ball +120
Ball is just one of those guys I look at and wonder why he hasn't had a little more success at least at the Challenger level. He's a big dude with a power lefty serve. He's in a way facing the right handed version of himself in Ram today. Both are similar in that when their serves work, they are tough to break and tough to beat. Ball is someone who when he wins early in these tournament usually has a shot to win 2-3 matches. Ram is tough, but I don't really see a big enough disparity in their games to see this as quite the gap the price suggests. Ram's 2012 hasn't been anything special and he's loss to several players that are probably worse than Ball. He was decent in his opener, but worked three sets against an inferior player. Watch the 1st serve percentage, that will tell a bit here, I think.Comment -
