ATP Oeiras Mini-View
A wide open field heads to Oeiras, Portugal this week as the clay court season continues. This 250-level event is in its second year in Oeiras after previously being held in Estoril. Tomas Berdych as the top seed. Berdych has only played in this tournament once, way back in 2005. Rounding out the top four seeds are Raonic, Granollers & Garcia-Lopez. Watch for qualifiers & wildcards here. In each of the last two years, a qualifier and wildcard have made the quarterfinals. Seeds are 6-2, 7-1 & 8-0 in the last three years stretching from Oeiras back to Estoril. It was a wildcard and a qualifier who pulled the upsets last year and I do think Granollers is prone this week and Garcia-Lopez and Tursunov also can be had on an off-day.
First Round Upset Watch
Qualifier vs. Sousa
Qualis conclude on Monday, so Sousa's exact opponent is unknown right now. Regardless, Sousa has not been playing well with the clay swing lately. He is just 1-3 in his last four on the surface with 1st-up losses in two of his last three tournaments. Check the match-up and see if it's a legit dirt rat. If it is, the price might be right to try going against Sousa.
Volandri over Elias
Backing Volandri is incredibly difficult. He's just 2-10 and a known match fixer. Elias has played two long back-to-back weeks with some incredibly long matches in Santos this past week. He also falls into the fade the loser of a Final try if you like that. He'll have long travel from Brazil and a quick turnaround to deal with.

Berdych Quarter
The draw is very straight forward for a semifinal run if he's inclined to play hard. His opener will be against Devvarman or Ebden and then a quarterfinal comes against Mannarino, Golubev, a qualifier or Sousa. Do keep an eye on Golubev who has been playing with confidence since his Davis Cup upset of Wawrinka.\
Garcia-Lopez Quarter
Garcia-Lopez is your fourth seed with Kukushkin as the #8 in the bottom of this quarter. Garcia-Lopez got a week of rest after a nice two week run that saw him win Casablanca and make the Monte Carlo quarters. His opener is Volandri or Elias. Hanescu plays a qualifier and Carreno-Busta and Kukushkin meet in the other first rounder in this quarter. Hanescu made the quarters last year and Carreno-Busta has all the talent in the world on this surface. If GGL is flat, Hanescu or Carreno-Busta could sneak out of here.
Granollers Quarter
The third seed opens against Montanes or Giraldo and should be on upset alert. After making the Casblanca Final, he's looking tired and possibly injured in losing two straight first up matches. Tursunov is the other seed, the #5 at the top of the quarter. He gets Machado to open. Even though Machado has been playing like crap, Tursunov is not at his best on this surface ... so the home boost potentially is something to look at, although I would be surprised if Machado stepped up. Watch Alejandro Gonzalez in this quarter.
Raonic Quarter
This is a real winnable quarter and the bottom of the draw in general looks beneficial for Raonic to make a Finals run if his game is on. He gets Cuevas or Nedovyesov to open. Gabashvili is the seed on top of the quarter. Berlocq is in this quarter and normally a dirt rat to watch, but he's been unable to sustain success yet this season. Still, don't count him out of possibly making life tough in this quarter. All in all, I like Raonic.
Futures Watch

Garcia-Lopez +1100
Even though Berdych could steamroll through this tournament, his price is incredibly short. For 4x that price, I think Raonic is a better look with his draw. Garcia-Lopez is a nice long shot odds type, but he's probably feast or famine with a bit more difficult draw.
