Do you know what marketing and sponsorship is? Jones will never get the same crowd reaction and love that he used too. Therefore, his marketability is decreased and sponsors won't be trying to outbid each other.

a) He wins, everyone praises his stepping up to the plate and fighting whoever is thrown at him. He has an even greater godly status.
b) He loses, everyone gives him deep respect for stepping up to the plate. Rematch will happen and will be one of the largest fights in UFC history.

Both of these outcomes increase his future value.

His turning down the fight has two outcomes:
a) Those who see it as a smart decision as he isn't prepared for a newcomer.
b) Those who say Fukk You Jon Jones, grow some balls.

Neither of these outcomes increase value and because of b) his value is decreased. It was a dumb 'BUSINESS' decision. All you idiots saying he's smart have no idea of what making money is about.

The only winner in this whole debacle is Chael Sonnen.

Only real possible negative to taking the fight is losing his perfect record.

Do you think he pays for advertisers to put logos on his shorts? I'm sure his corner men hold a banner (pre-fight) behind him because they like those companies. The soda/water bottles in front of him at press conferences he certainly paid for.

UFC is just happy to let whoever wants to donate the octagon canvas and padding put their logo on it. As well, whenever movies are advertised is because Dana thinks it will be entertaining to watch.

And I look forward to Nike's reaction after Jones signing a contract with them a few days ago:

PPV #s would be higher if he took the fight now

Dana White doesn't have a right to be pissed off at Jones. I would imagine that a fighter needs to stay mentally focused on who he's fighting... since there's a new guy on the card... Jones is allowed to excuse himself. Just because Dana White is in HOT WATER to fill the main card... that's not Jones's fault. Dana White should be DISGUSTED in himself. Money starting to go to his head. It's evident.

151 was not a hyped card. Jones was going to easily beat Hendo. There was little build up before today. All of a sudden the Sonnen-Jones potential fight was huge. It's even bigger that Jones won't fight him. So what's next, wait a month for Jones to win again? Ya, can't wait for that.

Yeah and the heavyweight championship was on some shit Fox Card. Or maybe they were trying to drive ratings up for Fox after the huge deal that they made? Na that'd make to much sense. If you actually think that Sonnen Jones would of had less pay preview buys than Machida Jones you may want to get yourself checked out.

Truth. They needed a big fight when Fox took over from Spike. I said before and I'll say again, Spike was smart to get out when they did. The few minutes when there might have been Sonnen vs. Jones was the most popularity Jones will get until there's a catch weight fight with him vs. Silva or GSP.

Jones could have easily made a legend of himself (according to SBR - how easily he would beat Sonnen) instead he'll fight Belfort. IF he loses, he'll be a laughing stock.

Simple explanation, always winning easily does not bring excitement to a fight. For example, Jones vs. Belfort, -700 vs. +600, I can't wait to watch this! This fight won't help the UFC..... I'll watch the link the next day. It has no value to me or any other common mma fan.
