SBR sites being DDOS'ed - So what is a DDOS attack and why?

I was told by a supposedly credible source yesterday that key words were coming up in some of the private messages of forum members. The money that they lost today is nothing in comparison to getting shut down. They had to figure who they were dealing with. Believe what u wish.

I, also, don't know the ad rates. But keep in mind it might be revenue sharing deals where SBR gets a cut of the losses from referrals, so it might way more than your estimate from just a particular source.

I agree also that SBR probably has the most succesful business model of all the gambling portals. But even if they are at the top, the 50-100k figure for a DoS attack extortion seems too high from what I have read and from what I have been relayed from the other side of the counter.

From what I know first hand and have been privy to in the past is seen the asian casino-only sites get extorted, and those figures never go up past 20k.

So, we come on here every day to basically make them richer? Before I joined I came through here a couple of times a year to check ratings. Now Im on here every day its like im working for free. Nevertheless, think about the people that work for sportsbooks that are planted here and the fact that people come on here and give away free picks. The bookmaker tourneys arent free? The BTP contest isnt "free" but if you dont have at least $100 deposited in a book, or dont have the means to, you probably shouldnt be gambling. There are others like "best bets" contests and a few others under the contests link that I dont feel like looking up right now. Also the 128 man tourney was free but is currently not active.

What is your point? Its a posting forum...we are lucky we get anything for free.

I think it would be nice to see a contest where cash deposit wasn't required maybe with a B or C rated book, books we have never tried however I'm not complaining. Im a regular on a non gambling forum where the owner is kind to allow google adsense and links on your sig which is a kind gesture of appreciation.

As for you telling me how much I should use to gamble. I think that's all off base. If I wanna put $50 in a day and say that's all Im gonna lose or build on that's me. What do we get? Nothing. We would not pay an extorter for a lot of reasons. In the present case we have had no communication from the hacker, just an orchestrated flood of malicious traffic. Our sponsors understand. More importantly we hope our visitors will stand by us

I think we should be able to come up with a better solution. Maybe its a mirror site or additional bandwidth or both. This is one of those things I wish we had already been working on. But we will move as fast as possible to implement a better solution.

As far as revenue comments in the thread and such, all I can say is SBR is very selective as to what kind of sportsbook we will put in front of visitors. We miss out on the SBG, BetUS, BetFirstClass and Lazerwager type revenue. At the end of the day the team works hard and puts out the best websites possible. I don’t know if we make the most or the least but I would bet the limit that no one out works SBR.

Yesterday morning I got hit with a 'Brastk' virus as soon as I logged on here. My anti virus sh1t caught it after it was already installed. Neither firewall stopped it either. It was a real pain in the a$$ to remove it, but I finally found a removal tool that got rid of it. Malawarbytes' AntiMalaware tool will remove it from you computer.

Be on the look out for a pop up box that says "microsoft 2009 anti spam removal tool", thats how it comes thru to your computer.

To combat these attacks the techs attempt to separate the attack traffic from the legit traffic. Of course the hackers know this will be the response so they will attempt to mask their malicious traffic. This cat and mouse game will continue until enough of the malicious traffic is blocked and the site operates normally. The hackers then take their infected computers elsewhere.

That sounds so simple and methodical. Put it in a handbook and send it to sportsbooks under these attacks. Some of them do not seem to handle these attacks nearly as effectively.
