#166Man the Tigers lineup is pathetic right now. I keep telling myself to stop betting them since they aren't doing squat right now, but see games like today and think this should be a win. Need to start fading Detroit apparently. I just hate to be on the other side when they get goin.Comment

#171Nothing we can do about it today guys. Handicapped perfectly. We can't control how the players play. Detroit had 12 base runners today and managed only 1 run. Masterson was NOT sharp today at all. He was simply lucky. He walked 5 and struck out 4 and had runners on in basically every inning. Verlander pitches 8 innings, 7 strikeouts, 1 walk. Should be enough for a win but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

Cleveland will finish 10 games out of first place.Comment

I thought I handicapped Hanson and the Braves last night to perfection myself, Hanson was lights out, losing 2-1 (only yielding one run)Should be more than enough for a win 9 times out of 10.
It's gambling, accept it, or take up needlepoint is what I say.Comment

#173That's exactly right. We all know the risks of gambling. We chose this lifestyle for better and for worse. All we can do is handicap and look for the best lines. Once we place our bets everything is out of our hands.Originally posted by stevenashI hear ya BB.

Even though CLEV won today, Masterson was not sharp. Just make a mental note of that and realize that he is a mediocre pitcher.Comment

#175The point is you made a blanked statement about -165 being a bad number to gamble on. I said it makes no sense because it simply is not true. What would be the point of handicapping games if you went by rules like you've suggested?Originally posted by No coincidencesWhy does it make absolutely no sense?

Again, do you realize the % you have to hit at to win over the course of a season taking faves of -150 or more? If not, check out Sammy's thread sometimes. Now add to that the Tigers' recent struggles and the fact that they're on the road against a first-place team that's beaten them in each of the last two nights. You do the math.

I realize that if you bet more favs you have to win at a higher rate but the betting price reflects a probability. If they play a 1000 times, DET would have to win at approximate >62% of the time to be a profitable bet. But they only play one game and that's where handicapping comes in. It's not like Verlander should have been +200 today. Just handicap the games and make your own lines and see where it falls.

No sense in arguing it more.Comment
