#72340M cash, I read they take 55% for taxes, leaving you with roughly 153M. With that amount if you put it in the most simple of savings accounts and earn a guaranteed 4.25% interest you'd earn almost $18,000 a day in interest alone. Over half a mill every month, and about 6.5M per year. About $730 every hour, $12 a minute. Now do your savings account interest math on that and you'd be making around 30 cents a second....

odds of iwin actually paying out $1,000,000 to the posters in this thread are probably worse than the odds of winning in the first placeComment -

#99i can think of about a million reasons why someone wouldn't pay $1 million to total strangers on a non legally-binding agreement (no consideration).
even if you plan on paying it, after you win $500 million split 3 ways and realize it's only $70 million or so immediately after taxes, that $1 million looks like a pretty big number to give away.

#102Yeah, pretty ridiculous money. Just live off the interest alone. Right now the estimated jackpot is $476 million with a cash option of $341 million. So if you won and elected the lump sum payment of $341 million you would have to pay 25% federal tax and then state tax, here in Colorado where I live it's 4%. So 29% taken away would be roughly $100 million you would have to pay in taxes leaving you with $241 million in money you would actually get.Now do your savings account interest math on that and you'd be making around 30 cents a second....
http://www.megamillions.com/winners/differences.asp
so rough numbers you "win $500 million" but net in wisconsin (7.5% tax here) is $196 million now. false advertising.
not sure where anyone could get 4% interest on that big a number, let's go with 10 year treasuries at 2%, that's about $2.5 million/year after taxes each year in interest income.
nothing to sneeze at, but winning $500 million still leaves you making less/year than a lot of people make which is kind of sick
