Centrebet "offers" poker to Aussies but in their terms: "Centrebet is not permitted to offer gaming services to persons present in Australia. If you are in Australia, you are not permitted to enter, or make an attempt to make an entry into, a game conducted on Centrebet Poker, Centrebet Casino and Centrebet Games".
Although I did laugh a bit when they mistakenly? sent me an email advertising their poker. They should just disable the poker tab altogether for people accessing the .au site.
Basically the IGA passed under Howard in 2001 and it banned everything online except sports betting, racing (all forms) and lotteries. Poker got thrown in with stuff like roulette somehow. Until a politician wakes up and realises that the government could make an even bigger fortune by allowing, regulating and taxing online casinos and poker, we're stuck. Same as live betting. Funny though that PokerStars has a 200+ employee office in Sydney. Yet we 'can't' play with them officially. But at least we have 10 million poker machines to play at if we're at a pub
