Right, but this shouldn't come as a surprise. You should have an idea as to when something like this is going to happen. For example, for Milwaukee you should know that Ned Yost uses a platoon of Bill Hall and Russel Branyon depending on whether the pitcher is a lefty or a righty. You shouldn't be shocked when the lineups come out for MIL then.

Steeltown is simply referring to unexpected absences in the lineup which are extremely rare. I don't think there is much if any substance to what he is arguing other than he has a personal (pointless) betting strategy/technique he uses to confirm who is in the lineup and who is out of it.

So you don't even handicap the games other than to see who is in and out of the lineup?

If I understand correctly then if you are betting a game between Milwaukee and San Diego and you really like San Diego in the game but you find out Adrian Gonzalez is out, you will just go ahead and blindly bet Milwaukee?

Yeah that is certainly atypical. Unless there is a freak car accident or family emergency of some sort, this type of thing rarely happens. Days off, injuries, and lefty/righty lineups are entirely predictable.

Lets for practical reasons say you are given 1 million dollars but have to risk it all on 1 game. Are you going to be more concerned with the value or the team you bet on being 100% together for that particular game? I like to have that same approach with each bet I make. I dont want any sacraficial lambs like you guys do because you are betting the %'s and a ton of games each day. I look at each bet I make as if it were my entire bankroll I was betting even though its not.
You guys sound like the same guys who play at places like BetUS because they have good odds or free half point Fridays. You say its worth the risk of not getting paid in order to get their good value. I dont understand this.

Whats your ecxuse for why Tori Hunter is NOT playing on this beautiful Saturday? Not seeing Hall or AJ Per.in lineup for sox either. And dont try telling me Hunter is a utility player. Or Hall! Hunter is one of the hottet hitters in the league right now and guess what? Hes not on the injury report!

Angels had won like 300 straight games before today right? With Hunter in the lineup in all of those games right?? Today he sits for no reason and they get smoked and score just two runs. But there is no correlation between lineup and final score right? Yea ok!! It all evens out right. Im sure you guys got great value on the Angels! And thats all that matters. And no Im not saying the Yanks were the play as soon as you saw Hunter out of the lineup, Im just saying I wouldnt want the Angels being my play of the day with him out of it. Im sure you went like 24 and 10 today so that one loss wont hurt you but some of us are looking to go 1 and 0.

Its pretty obvious that these guys from yesterday have been proven wrong a nd so thats why they are not showing their faces.

Aug 2 : Hunter will miss the final two games of the Yankees series this weekend due to personal reasons, the Press-Enterprise reports.
                      Maybe this is why:

Placed oufielder Torii Hunter on the bereavement list; recalled second baseman Sean Rodriguez from Salt Lake of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

And now you are gonna say that laying the "anywhere from -139 to -149" chalk was a good wager because Hunter was out of the lineup? Maybe you should have taken a side before the game started, not just stating the facts. Hindsight is 20/20 and you can't wager on it.

I hear what Steel is saying but you can lose about 20 cents on a line waiting for the starting lineup, very very few everyday players are worth that. Puljos maybe, Bonds in his hey day...many days off are against pitchers that the players don't do well against as well.

I can see both sides, but I'll take the early line (I do bet every day though) If I spot bet I might be more inclined to wait.

OK, the proof is in the pudding and yesterday the Mil. Brewers were playing the lineup depleted minor league Atl. Braves. The Brew crew even had one of their aces Ben Sheets on the mound. All Star Ben Sheets I might add. The first two games of this series were just silly. But for whatever reason, Manager Yost decides to give half his team the day off. Weeks, Hall, and Cameron were benched in favor of three guys who left like 15 guys in scoring position. As you can see I played Mil in the contest here thinking it was free money. But due to my strategy of waiting to see the lineups before I place real action, I luckily didnt lose one penny on this game because I didnt want to bet on a team that obviously was taking the day off. Oh yea, Mil. scored 0 runs. GL

Sunday---- Thome sits and sox get crushed--------Vlad G. sits and Angels lose-----------Also Mauer sits and Miltln Bradley sit. Funny thing is that Thome sat against a righty in Greinke. Point proven again and again.
