I have to jump in here! No not 40 years ago lets try about 400years. Your really dismissive of racism and my guess is that you have never been truly effected by it. Possibly its because of the lasting effects that are still felt today. They include but are not limited to: poverty, racial profiling, poor educational infrastructure, rampant drug and alcohol dependencies, dysfunctional familial relationships, etc.

Also, if an African American is running for President and is reported to be polling approx 40%, doesn't that show a massive vote by non African Americans for an African American. I think the point i'm trying to make is, how long will it be before people accept society in general have made numerous attempts to right the wrongs of previous generations and just how long do you plan to use civil rights and slavery as a stick to beat non African Americans that, for the most part, are not racist. What should whites have done according to you is sent the slave ships to Ivy League schools as they arrived to the port so they will be educated and given the same chance as whites.
