There are less than 190 players left in the field including some monster names. Hoyt Corkins, Mike Matusow, Phil Hellmuth Jr., Allen Cunningham and Gus Hansen are just some of the big names remaining.

#2Cunningham's gone. If Hellmuth wins this, that would be sick. The guy would have to be considered quite possibly the best ever.Comment -

#6Is there a chance in hell that I could watch the WSOP this year without knowing who won 3 months in advance?
Pulling for Matusow here. I think this guy's paid his dues and deserves something like this. I remember few years ago when everyone used to make fun of him and didn't give him any respect as a poker player. Now look at him!!!!!Comment -

#18Not sure how much Mike the mouth laid out for tournaments and also cash games at the Bellagio but he has won close to a 1,000,000 already this World Series in smaller events. Tac on what he'll win in the main event and I would say he is back to his form of 2004-2005.Comment -

#20Matusow makes a move and gets lucky to double up
Sean Davis opened with a raise to 75,000 before Matusow shoved over the top for a total of 545,000. The action folded around and Davis quickly called. Matusow: Davis: "I found the ten-five ladies and gentlemen!" said Matusow, displaying a quiet confidence that he could find his way out of the mess he'd just gotten himself into. The crowd were on their feet as the flop fell and Matusow spiked a pair to roars of delight from his fans! The turn was the the and river the , as the chants of "Mikey! Mikey! Mikey!" broke out around the room as Matusow found a remarkable double-up to jump up to 1.1 million in chips. "I shifted gears at the right time baby! I feel GOOD!"Comment -

Great player don't get me wrong but the whole boo-hoo the cards always go against me thing gets tired. Hellmuth complains when people play shitty, that I can relate to... but bad beats are bad beats, they level out in the end, hearing pros whine and cry like Matasow is weak.Comment -

#27See I don't blame Hellmuth for stuff like this;
Hellmuth Ends the Day With a Blow-up
Cristian Dragomir opened with a raise to 80,000 before Hellmuth made it 255,000 to go from the small blind. "I hope he doesn't have aces," said Hellmuth as Dragomir asked for a count. After a few moments, Dragomir made the call. They saw a flop ofand Hellmuth checked to Dragomir, who thought for a moment before firing a healthy bet of 300,000. Hellmuth sighed in disgust before folding
face-up on the table. Matusow laughed and said to Dragomir to show the bluff, and Dragomir flipped
! Matusow and the crowd roared in hysterics as Hellmuth jumped out of his seat and stormed around the room berating his opponent for calling his reraise with ten high. "Listen buddy, you're an idiot!" screamed Hellmuth. "This is the Main Event and you are the worst player in history!" he continued as the crowd was loving every moment of the blow-up. Dragomir's entourage continued to cheer as Hellmuth continued the barrage. The TD stepped in and issued a warning to Hellmuth to settle down before Dragomir stood up out of his chair to put Hellmuth back in his place with a cry of, "Enough is enough!" Fortunately for both players the clock ticked over to the end of the level, and the end of the day's play to settle both players down. They eventually shook hands and began to bag up their chips as Mike Matusow summed up the situation best as he shouted, "Thank God for Phil Hellmuth! Thank God for Chris Moneymaker!" What a way to end the day!
Yes, he could be more mature, but that is a very moronic call.Comment -

#28Its really not that bad of a call. Hellmuth's reraise gave him 2:1 to call a 3:2 dog. Not to mention, if he puts him on AK and it doesnt hit the flop, he can get Phil off the hand easily...Comment -

#29Fair enough, just seems too risky to me if I'm Dragomir. The 80,000 to try and steal the blinds is fine, but now its 175,000 to go... Phil is relatively short stacked and could very easily be sitting on a hand stronger than AK and doesn't want to scare me away with an all in bet. He could have also been hoping I'd re-raise all in. If the flop comes with a 4 or a 10, it will be virtually impossible for me to get away from as any bet Phil makes could be on 2 overs and knowing Im weak since I just called his re-raise. 2 diamonds on the flop also makes this hard to get away from but with out much chance at a huge pot. I want a hand like 10d 4d with many in the hand or against a big stack and hoping for a miracle flop...
On paper you are right, it could have been worse. But there are so many things factoring against him here that I just wouldn't want to be heads up against a short stack with a garbage hand like 10 4. You chalk it up to a failed steal and fold here.Comment -

#30Hmm. I guess that's where you and I differ. I'd much rather have T4 against a short stack than a big stack. The damage done with a vastly inferior hand like T4 is minimized by going against a smaller stack. I certainly wouldn't want to exit the tournament because I played T4...Comment -

Lets say you played it, flop comes 2 4 Q. Phil bets 200,000.
