Braves pitcher Christian Martinez didn't get a call, turned his back to home plate. Ump takes his mask off and stares Martinez down with the "I'm the bad ass ump" stare.

The ball beat Lugo by 5 feet. When the umpire called him safe, Lugo hadn't even touched home plate yet. I'm a Braves fan and had $ on the Bravos but that was agawd awful call...

you can't go by facial expressions and body language. then every close call at 1b should goto the runner since they always throw their arms in the air making the safe sign.

youre right about fielders getting the benefit of the doubt at second base especially even when they don't tag or step on the bag but thats the way it's always been.but in the post couple of seasons theyve been calling them safe. many a commentators have mentioned this. but it's never been this liberal when it comes to home plate.

even had there been replay, it would not have been overturned because all it takes is one angle showing no tag and the center field camera certainly does that.

I don't need all the pictures that show the tag, I don't need the slow-mo video replays, I don't need to look at Lugo who knew he was out, I don't need simple logic to see that the catcher never tried to reapply the tag because he must have got him the first time... I WATCHED THE GAME LIVE AND IT'S AN EASY FUKKING CALL IN REAL TIME.

The fact of the matter is that you give the Pirates the out even if there's a doubt in your mind if he actually tagged him. That kind of play is not the kind you try and make an epic call by saying that the "ole" missed him, especially in the 19th inning! YOU JUST DON'T! Imagine he called him out but there actually was no tag (missed by a few millimeters), do you think anyone would be outraged? NO! That would be the case where you say it was a blown call but a tough one at that.

This is a sham and the ump deserves a suspension and no playoff designation this year. PERIOD.

apparently this umpire meals lives in salem ohio, quite close to pittsburgh actually, probably an hour away at most, we have a lot of crazy fans dying for any meaningful baseball at all, id keep a low profile if i was him.

I didn't think he got him on the arm so you can't say "everyone". The first time through in real time, I thought he got him on the leg. The broadcasters said something about the arm... that's about it.
