i didnt have any money on it so it isnt sour grapes, but i just happened to notice they were still playing in the 17th so i watched til the end - the 19th when the pirates clearly had a braves runner out going home by literally three feet when umpire called him safe. no doubt the worst call i have ever seen. so if you had the pirates money line you were robbed, if you had braves = your luckier than a dog with two dicks.

It makes it worst that it was a long game and clearly the old man was tired. I agree that the MLB has to do something here (such as suspension), you can't be putting yourself before the game.

It was clear he had made up his mind on the call well before it happened. I have seen this before but usually it ends up close enough the controversy is minimal and shit sometimes it is even right bt this........ come on. I would do what I do with my underlings at work when they say they are tired "you're tired? good you are off for the next 3 days go get some rest and maybe if I feel confident you are well rested I'll let you come back and make some money." Usually changes their mood real fast cus they go broke for next check trying to make up lost pay. Needs go be suspended without pay for long enough that it "hurts" although they are so well paid that would have to be at least a season or so.

I still think he is out, but the catcher makes a swipe tag that BARELY gets Lugos leg, then after that he holds his glove up and doesnt even touch Lugo.

Catcher should have just put his glove in Lugo's gut to make it more convincing.

Even if you just use logic, you can make the right call. You think if the catcher missed the tag, he wouldn't try to reapply the tag? The batter missed homeplate by 3 feet but the catcher didn't care because he knew he made the tag with the first swipe. Pretty outrageous to me.

Plate umpire Jerry Meals became the focus of the conclusion of the 4-3, 19-inning win the Braves claimed over the Pirates at Turner Field Tuesday night. The game ended when he surprisingly called Julio Lugo safe after it appeared Pirates catcher Michael McKenry tagged him before he crossed the plate.

Meals provided an explanation of what he saw on the play, which began with Scott Proctor hitting a grounder to Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez whose throw to the plate easily beat Lugo.

Meals’ explanation:

“I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him and I called him safe for that. I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I’m guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened I didn’t see a tag.

“I just saw the glove sweep up. I didn’t see the glove hit his leg.”
