I can tell you from experience how this situation should've been handled. My abuelito and I used to catch dogs running in heat packs on the ranch, and the first time he brought the pickup to s screeching stop out in the pasture and ordered me out of the cab and shooting the dogs, I refused. Then he took me to a pen one morning where dogs had gotten in and slaughtered about two dozen goats. Didn't kill 'em to eat; just killed them to kill them, like a bunch of teen-aged heathens running wild on a Friday night vandalizing property. The next time he brought the truck to a stop and pointed to a pack of dogs, I had no trouble getting out with my rifle.

There were other times that we caught the dogs live. Most of them were harmless, just pets, and their only crime was the fact they had pissants for human owners. We'd take those dogs to town, to the sherriff, and the ones that had collars were pretty easily identified from their vaccine tags.

Then the silly ass liberal courts up and decided that they couldn't fine the owners because there really wasn't any proof, other than my grandfather's word, that the dogs were actually on their property.

Same thing with humans trespassing on the ranch. You could catch them and warn them, you could go and report them to the sherriff. But unless law enforcement actually came out to the property and saw them there, ti was just two people saying, "Yes you did, No I didn't."

If this guy was persistent at coming onto the farmer's land in this case, then I really have no sympathy for the guy. Hate that his dog took the dirty end of the stick, but he's the one who put him and his dog in that situation.
