Wine is the Windows compatibility layer/setup for Linux, Mono is the GTK compatibility layer for it ...

Install Ubuntu, go into "Ubuntu Software Center" off the start menu, search for and install Wine (the first one not the second beta version).

Open a terminal/command window and type/do the following:

wget http://winetricks.org/winetricks-alpha and hit return (will download a wine config/tweaking script)

chmod+x wiretricks-alpha and hit return (makes it executable)

sh winetricks mono28 and hit return (runs winetricks and installs mono v2.8)

wget http://pokerservices.sbrforum.com/do.../sbr_setup.exe and hit return (DLs the poker client)

wine sbr_setup.exe ( runs/installs SBR Poker into the Wine area within Ubuntu and lets you watch the debug output in the terminal window in case something goes

up )

at this point you'll have a shortcut to SBR Poker on your desktop. right click it, select the permissions tab, and tick ( or untick and retick ) allow execute file as program and click close, and the shortcut should now show the SBR Bull as the icon graphic.

you're now good to go, double click it to run it like you would in Windows, and up it will come, login using your SBRForum username/password combo

I'm not 100% sure it needs Mono v2.8 to work properly but I upgraded Wine and Mono both before I attempted to run it, and it works fine for me, and Mono has a small footprint in terms of disk usage anyway ...

Maybe mods should copy/sticky this someplace for non-Win users ?

SBR John,

You need to address the issue of posters registering for 2 tourneys per day and if the glitch can't be fixed in the software impose punishments for violators.

Wow chachi... sounds rather complex. I'm starting to think it might honestly be easier to just get an old shitty Windows computer and use it for nothing but SBR Poker.

Anyway, thanks for the write-up though! I'm a little worried about putting my system on the line with so many strange and seemingly important programs... maybe it's less intense than Im thinking? Either way, I personally appreciate the alternate option, and I'm sure many others will as well if they are looking for an option and do in fact read this.

Things are a bit confusing for me... I'm currently using a friend's computer, who uses a virtualization program to get Windows, and I was able to sign up for a spot in tonight's tourney after one inexplicably opened up. Right before that I'd signed up for tomorrow night's... so now I'm in for both? Is this allowed? And, if I log out will I become unregistered?

Correct. You're in for the Saturday tournament and you can still play once per day.

If you happen to win a tournament tomorrow or Friday, the second place person would get a spot instead of first, but you're in regardless.

Yeaaa... We are working hard on it. I was told the problem will be corrected by programming in the next couple of days. OK, I'll ask Bill and Lou to work out the dup guys.

There are a lot more then 288 SBR Pros. There should definitely be more seats.

You could have had iifold's seat in the 10 p.m. tourney since this is his second tourney of the day he has just been on auto-fold for the last 45 minutes.

Guys joining multiple tournaments a day is very unfair to those who want to play.
