I understand it's a service and you have to pay I guess to have this service, but come on!!!!! These are american citizens! Wow.. I can't believe a story like this happened in our own country.. It is rediculous!! I am ashamed, and the firefighters should be also.. All the things that family lost that cannot be replaced by money.. What a terible story..

could you imagine being a firefighter there just doing a defensive attack preventing it from spreading to the house next door when they could've easily saved the house? i'm sure they hated watching it burn but they were following their city's rule/law. The firefighters were just following protocol, the chief definitely could've instructed them to put it out tho.

The fact is that these things cost money, and cost extra money in rural areas. Someone needs to pay it, and if the local government with the support of the citizens has the $75 fee policy in place there's no excuse for not knowing the policy and paying up. Not paying it shows a complete lack of regard for your own property.

As implied in my original post, I'm not saying they did the right thing by not putting out the fire, but the resident needs to take some responsibility for his actions.

That circumstance is far too different as a comparison.

1) No one's life was at stake.
2) $75 is not $7500.

If the family legitimately did not have the money when the fee was due I'm sure they could have arranged for something to be done about it.

Firefighters don't get paid that well. Pending where at I guess. My son is a firefighter and local jobs around the country don't pay all that well. He is on his second tour to Antarctica where he gets paid well working for a Govt contract deal.
