The Iraqi army Had soviet equip. and weapons........That was the soviets big selling point to our opposition world wide " buy from us its as good as the Americans" It was a surprise to us as well.....That was the reason for the build up of large number of troups and amount of equip......we prepared for a tough time due to the illusion that the soviets had instilled in the world but when push came to shove their CRAP suckedComment -

they certainly did but they also had tons of u.s. equipment as well. we aided saddam and his cronies in their conflict against the iranians during the 80s because at that time iranians were the biggest threat to us in the middle east (and one could argue they still are).
i wouldn't doubt that we played up the role of russian armaments and downplay our own role in equipping the iraqis.
at that point the russians were having a firesale on their military equip., attempting to get their hands on every last dollar to help their self-imploding economy. and by doing this they may or may not have gone through some unscrupulous channels to dump excess armament.Comment -

from that list i would have to chose bill clinton.times under clinton were easier,with most people being in the green.clinton made a bill stating it was illegal for a employ to fire someone because they used the companys insurance to mush.he also allowed moms to take their kids where they worked,and the business had a nursery for the kids to be watched,and clinton also created alot of jobs under him,plus had a big surplus.the only thing i didnt like about clinton was nafta.his idea was great,becauce all the countries were suppose buy and sell equally.instead of us making things we outsourced like hell.the worst thing is my dad has two farms which mostly grows corn,and tobacco.the dumb smokers sued and it was the beginnig of destroying the industry.my dad got a tobacco buy out a few years ago,and the poundage on tobacco has been cut really bad.nobody put a gun to peoples head and told them to smoke.to those people i say **** you.iam sorry guy for my rant at the end.Comment -

i hope you are trying to be funny fishhead.those days were called the great depression and were the worst days in our countries history.i remember my grandparents tellign me it was a living breathing hell.my grandparent lived okay because they could grow there own food.we have a few rich people in our town,and they got it when their grandparents let people borrow money that were not as forunate as they were.the poor people lost everything they had because they couldnt pay it back.franklin d. rosovvelt had to save this country.just think what people in their 60s,and 70s would do without social security.these people would lose their home,and die of starvation.i hope you are joking fishhead.Comment -

but really, HH wasn't responsible for the great depression, by the time he got into office things were already set in motion toward a collapse that he couldn't stop. really the previous two administrations shoulder the blame for creating circumstance that led to economic collapse (harding and coolidge). by the time hoover reached office, there was nothing he could really do. he is more or less the goat for the depression because he was in office at the time of the stock market crash.
but his approach toward getting the country out of the depression was a big failure, that he gets responsibility for (mainly because he was a fairly incompetent guy).
coincidentally, harding, coolidge, and hoover were all republicans
but seriously, repubs or not they were all idiots, and they took a self centered approach (and were often challenged by members of their own party) toward domestic and international politics at the time (strategic non-binding commitments).Comment -
