Fishy if Obama or the media asked both the NFL and NBA to ask players to volunteer for 2014 USA squad and we spent the next 4 years,3 months out of each year preparing this team of NFL/NBA "stars" they would easily make it to the final 4 in Brazil in 2014

They probably would, but they probably would leave the game in the first half with an injury. Skinned knee, bumped leg etc...

Very stupid thread.
If we're talking Celtics players, give me Rondo over Garnett in both basketball and soccer. Rondo, with his skillset, would seem to be an ideal goalie. He'd have to learn tactics and strategy, though.
Garnett? Hell no.

You guys are crazy. Soccer is a sport of skill not athleticism. Meaning you need years to master it.
Its like saying "Michael Jordan can be an amazing MLB player if he wanted."
MJ tried and FAILED because its also a sport based on skill, not athleticism.
He batted .202 for a minor league team.

I've never heard anyone say that great athletes like MJ, Kobe, Lebron etc. would be great baseball players if they wanted. That's retarded. Baseball isn't a sport based on great athleticism. Great athletes do play baseball, but so do fat guys and slow guys and out of shape guys.

Exactly. Baseball and soccer are sports based on skill not athleticism. So saying KG could be a good soccer player is like saying MJ could be a good baseball player (which he tried).

Reality, no less than 20 current NBA players would become the best goalie in the world within 90 days if they actually wanted to do such a crazy thing.

Easily one of the most ignorant, idiotic statements I've seen on SBR. And that's saying something.
And if we're talking about NBA stars that would make good soccer players, please see this video:

Overall, excellent post sir.
It's so obvious why the rest of the world is so good...they don't have to compete in getting the best athletes with the NBA and NFL and while both EPL and La Liga have some deep pocket owners. If you own an American Franchise you effectively have a licensee to print money
Put Jerry Jones,David Stern or even Jeff Lurie in charge of USA soccer 2014 with free reign to draft athletes from all American sports and let them play between seasons for a few months for the next four years with huge non salary cap bonuses
Kobe
Garnett
Duane Wade
Lebron
Kevin Durant
Andre Johnson-Texans
Fitzgerald-Cardinals
Miles Austin-Dallas
just to name a few
We run over Italy,Germany,England on our way to play Brazil in the final
