Americans consume 20 million barrels of oil a day, number one in the world, more than 3 times number two, more than 10 times number ten on that list.

    educate yourself, Dwight.

You said "the American people and their insatiable desire for oil are to blame for this mess. Don't kid yourselves"

That doesn't make any sense at all

How is that the american people's fault?

You know what that is? it's called LIFE! In life SHIT happens and while this is horrible, they will learn from it and prevent that from ever happening again.

I suppose that you blame the american people when someone dies in a car accident because of their insatiable desire for automobiles?

Plane crash? because of their insatiable desire to travel?
Did you criticize the Russians at Chernobyl for their insatiable desire for heat?
Did you criticize the family who's house burnt down from a spark from the fireplace because of their insatiable desire not to freeze to death?

Let's use our heads please. Yes it's a tragedy and I am sure they will impose stricter guidelines for future offshore drilling. The fact is, many many years of drilling and dozens of wells and this has never happened. The other tragedy was a drunken captain in Alaska.

Blaming the american people is just stupid.

the ONLY good that may come of this is that the eastern seaboard of the US may never get drilled-like the Obama Admin planned to.
I agree with you 100% Bruce. Hope you might overlook 3 months ago!

yeah, they'll learn from it alright. Big corporations chasing only a $ really tend to exhibit learned behavior! Thanks for the lol there. You know what they'll learn? How to boost profits. That's it. If a few messes get in the way of a couple of bucks, who cares, as long as the stockholders are happy.

Its a terrible tragedy that will sooner or later affect my home on the beach in NW FL. Having said that, there are some outstanding bargins on land based drilling stocks at this moment. They have paid the price per share % wise just like the deepwater based drillers stocks have the last month. I advice everyone to find the proper land based drillers and invest in them. Oil prices arent going down in the long run and land based drillers wont have the restrictions placed on them that the deep water drillers will, JMO.

Is there a way, or why don't they find a way, for the leaked oil to be harvested; just a suggestion instead of spending all time on trying "plug" the hole.

Bruce, you are dodging. You said this is the American people's fault which is loco.

Hopefully we will find out who's fault it was and prevent this tragedy from ever happening again.

Whether it's Big Corporations or not is besides the point and can be left to discuss at a different time and subject but it's irrelevant to what happened here. Isn't it?

Someone likely fukked up and 11 people died and a disaster has occurred. This is life and life sucks sometimes.

Maybe you are one of those protesters who attend all the G7 summits, smash windows, chuck stones at riot police and hold up signs like "down with capitalism" but still consumes the products these companies make but bashed them every chance you get? Maybe you aren't. Regardless, it's your right and I will never say you shouldn't speak freely but ....

Let's use common sense here rather than suggesting that I educate myself.

I saw on an interview where they had the Owner of BP come to Louisiana and walk and look at all the oil that was already coming to land, and he was smiling. Looking like an asshole that didn't give a shit about this.

Bama shores are still oil free although the oil is closin in on the mouth of Mobile Bay. And you guys do know that petroleum is used for a lot more than just gas don't you? Things like rubber, plastics, cosmetics, bubble gum, soft contact lenses, artificial hearts and pacemakers, Antihistamines, surgical equipment, bandages and household cleaners. I may be goin down to the Gulf in 3 weeks. I will take you pictures.

BP just gave a business owner $5000.00. She said her electric bill for the month is that amount. People are going to get royally screwed by BP. Then they are going to wait for you to take them to court. These rats at BP are something else.

The CEO said the other day, " I feel for everyone here, but I want my lifeback too"..

                                                                    Economic and personal impact

It has since recovered.[38]
According to several studies funded by the state of Alaska, the spill had both short- and long-term economic effects. These included the loss of recreational sports, fisheries, reduced tourism, and an estimate of what economists call "existence value," which is the value to the public of a pristine Prince William Sound.[39][40][41]
The economy of the city of Cordova, Alaska was adversely affected after the spill damaged stocks of salmon and herring in the area. Several residents, including one former mayor, committed suicide after the spill.[42][43]
