Presbyterian College Hires High School Coach Who Never Punts
Kevin Kelley, one of the most successful high school football coaches in the country and well-known for his unique approach to strategy that includes never punting and almost always onside-kicking, will be named the head coach of Presbyterian College on Friday, a school official told ESPN.
Kelley moves to the FCS ranks after a historic run at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, that includes nine state titles and being named the USA Today High School Coach of the Year in 2016.

I don't he will always on side kick and go for it on 4th down everytime at the college level, unless he is completely brain dead.
When the smartest guy in the room gets his ass handed to him the look and tone will change. He will be on the wrong end of a lot of lopsided scores and go from genius to stupid pretty quickly.

No way would I go play for a coach like this if I'm a defensive player. If an onside kick misses, then you are already protecting your side of the field. If they go for it on 4th and 15 on their own 20, you are potentially starting in the red zone. Better have an offensive line that hardly ever has a false start.

The guy recruited pretty well at high school. We will see if he is as good at lower level college.
I wonder if a school ever hires a coach who never likes to scores touchdowns and always kicks field goals.

It's an interesting Game Theory question.
I know the studies show that Punting is Negative EV. I really think it depends. If marginal, best to be Aggressive.

Watching some of this game out of pure curiosity. Tried for it on 4th and 6 on their own 16 and made it. Tried for it on 4th and 8 on their own 32 and no good. Already down 14-0.

I don’t think they win anymore this season. You can’t score every single time you have the ball and you can’t stop the opponent every time they have the ball, so onside kicks and going on 4th down ALL the time when the opponent knows its coming just gives them(opponent)more possessions and less possessions for Presbyterian. Can’t win consistently having fewer possessions and giving the opponent short fields.

At no competitive level can you do what Presbyterian is doing and win unless you are 10X better than your opponent or beating up on artificial intelligence.
