That’s not how it works. The law basically created a $1200 additional tax credit you would’ve gotten next year in normal circumstances, but they gave it to you now instead.

Its not gonna affect your tax liability next year because the debt of the money they paid you now is offset by the tax credit next year.

Good stuff. I had co workers talking about it today and that was one of the talking points. Tax effects next year. That article is pretty crystal clear, but I know I don’t believe this money is “free”. I’ve been turning down “free” stuff for years because I know it has to cost someone something and its usually me.

Ended up having to owe on Federal taxes, but got a refund on State taxes. Checked the stimulus site today and they didn't have our dirdepos info even though we got dirdepos from the State. However, obvi state and federal are different, so we put in the info needed to get the check.
