#5I'm at about the same pace. I just took 8 weeks off with a knee injury so I'm easing back into it. I ran a 10K last summer in about 1:10, this year my goal is to do it in under an hour.Comment -

#14my senior year in HS I ran our home 3.1 cross country course with lots of hills in 15:53
my best 5k (3.1 miles) on the road was 15:43
I got bored with running after a half year of college. went back to football, basketball and lifting....
sat on the bench in basketball, never saw the field in football, lifted some impressive weights, threw the shot 47 feet, the jav 204 and had a 6,850+ decathalon
now I walk briskly for 20 mins briskly before lifting and 30 mins slowly after lifting 3 days a week. I haven't run more than 3 miles in 10 years most likelyComment -

4:28 1600 in high school, 1:54 800
I know a few girls that broke 5 mins in the 1600, you are right its not hard.
forget 4:00 in the mile for the best in the world
try 8:00 for 2 miles now..... its been broken
the avg mile for the 3.1 mile (5k) record was like 4.04 a mile
the top marathon guys avg about 4:49 per mile for 26.2 miles
but most people just aren't built to do anything close to that
just like 99.9% of people can't do a 4.4 40Comment -

#33I was in Pa. we had alot of good distance runners but I still would have been a contender to place at states in either event..... most years 4:15 or so won it and 1:51-1:52 won it in the 800
but
my so, jr, and sr year.....got mono my soph year, had a stress fracture in my femur of all places my jr year and in my senior year I got another stress fracture and bronchitis. never got to compete. I was invited to the kinney cross country national championships my senior year, and ran for the jr national cross country team overseas my senior year during the "offseason"
gotta love the glory days...... I can't even believe I used to run 40-100 miles a week, do hill work, speed work and all that back in the day..... like I said I can't be bothered to run over a mile now a days just for straight cardioComment -

#34Originally posted by ChugsUmm no, not at all. Most the kids on the on the track team when I was in highschool ran about a 5:30 miles. Pro runners usually have miles times in the mid 4s.
Man speaks the truth.
um no
most high school state championship level milers will run around 4:20.... every year there is a kid or two that threatens to break the 4 minute mile in HS.... I think brandon webb did it last
the "pro" read olympic level milers will run well under 4:00 every year about 100 guys in the world will break the 4:00 mile...
the record is 3:41 now
the 8 minute 2 mile has been broken....
98% of guys on this forum could not run 100 meters at the pace of the world record mile
70% couldn't run 40 yards at the world record mile paceComment -

#35Originally posted by Cougar BaitWhat? No, I ran 5:20 steady, all the time, +/- about 10 seconds. Regardless of scenario. Unless you are running on uneven terrain, or without shoes, you develop a basic pattern over time. It rarely fluctuates, especially 40 seconds...because I was...by myself...anyway...not that it matters.Comment
