Leaning towards San Diego in game two, but not playing it.

I have a little more faith in Dylan Cease than my pal Peavy does, but I don't have enough faith to plunk down cash.
Cease was unhittable just a few years ago, pitching in the American League; now he's the epitome of inconsistency.

    I do like OVER 7.5 Boston/NYY
Boston hits LHP very well; they should be able to touch up Rondon for some.
And conversely, the Yankees should be able to get to Bello.

    OVER 7.5 Boston/NYY
    1*

I'm up against the clock here, so I'll keep it short, just for now.

I do like Cleveland with Bibbee to rebound later against Detroit.
Slight nod to Bibbee over Mize.
Small play for me with Cleveland, these two starters are middle-of-the-rotation, pedestrian-like starters.
Cleveland does have a slight advantage IMO

    1* Cleveland

I'll post my thoughts on the late pm games in an hour or two.

Just seeing this thread now, but as a longtime Yankees fan, I have no faith (and had none before last night) against Boston... I don't know the season series vs each other, but it felt like Boston won almost all of them. WS appearance and getting clocked aside, the Yankees don't change. It's generally all or nothing, don't have hitters for average that are ready for postseason pitching. It often feels like it's HR or K with them. And the pitching rarely holds up. My comment this weekend was "if they can't win with Fried, they're done".. so I'm not expecting much other than them going out with a whimper.. again.

Padres with a pretty pathetic effort yesterday...do or die today and I have ZERO faith in Cease. The guy has to be in the top 5 underachievers in MLB when you factor in talent/stuff and results. I'd love to be proven wrong!!

Boston Red Sox 3rd baseman Alex Bregman is batting .375 in his last 8 games versus the N.Y. Yankees with 16 total bases from hits over that span. Against Yankee starter Max Fried, Bregman has a career .556 average with 8 total bases from hits in 4 games. The odds on Bregman to get 2+ total bases from hits tonight are +136.

    HPU is very inconsistent.

That's the one thing that pissed me off as a catcher, pissed me off more than my pitcher giving up a leadoff walk.

It's one thing to call a strike a little out of the zone, high or low, as long as the HPU is consistent with the call; that's the ump telling both squads, "That's my zone, and that's the way I'll call it all game." I'm cool with that, at least I know where the HPU is at, but calling the same pitch a strike and the next time a ball, then I get cranky.

I've been tossed from a couple of games for telling the ump, "Come on, man, call it the same way, you're killing me back here."

Gavin Williams has impressed so far.

He has a three-pitch arsenal; he has a curveball, it's not even an ancillary pitch, the curve is an afterthought.

Williams threw two yakkers in the second inning, one in the third that made me sit up and go "Whoa, where did these come from"

Those three particular curves would have made Andy Messersmith and Mike Mussina proud.

    Thanks, fellas, appreciate the words.

    A couple of early takes.

John-Rod is a liability in the outfied, no excuse for heeling that single and making it a double for all intents and purposes.

In October, you can't get away with silly mistakes like that, bend down, look that ball into the glove, throw the ball back into second base. Come on, these guys play for pay.

I like Gavin Williams, but he doesn't have a change/curve.
Tigers are first-ball swinging, like they're expecting straight balls (fastballs)
When that Tiger lineup faces Williams a second (or if there is a third turn) I believe Detroit will tag the kid.

    Let's see.

Oh, Skubal is a mother freaking animal, he's Crochet in a Tiger uni.
And Sean McDonough is killing me already.

    Nash 2025 MLB Postseason

    Dog day afternoon

    (All posted lines via DraftKings)

Boston Red Sox +115 Red Sox
Crochet is worth money as a dog; the lefty is electric with a cannon for an arm.
Red Sox crush LHP, especially Gonzalez (Gonzalez props are in play)
No doubt Judge is an all-time great, prolific HR hitter, but let's face facts, Judge has a habit of disappearing in the bright lights of October baseball.

Boston Red Sox +115 Red Sox

    Boston v. LHP 2025
(Story has popping power, Gonzo is a beast vs. LHP)

    Cincinnati +170 v LA Dodgers

I'm riding the Red wave in game one.
Hunter Green is a bona fide stud, I can't ignore +170
The Dodgers are flawed, sure, but Snell can be reached.
LA has regressed, and I believe +170 with the Reds is a solid value play.

    Cincinnati +170 v LA Dodgers

    No plays (yet)
I'm leaning SD +110 over the Cubs.
Skubal should get it done vs. the team FKA the Indians, but I don't lay -165.
Detroit might be a play on the run line, but nothing yet (for now)

    Updates later.
    Red Sox best bet 2*
1* value play on the Reds +170
