20 DIME - UTEP MINERS - Dangerous home dog tonight.
UTEP has perhaps one of the more impressive wins of the year in college football and the general sports fan probably knows nothing about it.
Playing at home, which is where they are tonight, they shredded a Houston team 58-41 as a 14 1/2 point home underdog.
A Houston team that was coming off a huge win at Oklahoma State out of the Big 12.
Now I also understand this UTEP team lost at home to Kansas, and went on the road and lost to Memphis but is Tulsa really that good to be laying more than a touchdown here?
I look at Tulsa on the road at Rice, a game they won 27-10 against a Rice team that gave up 63 at home to Navy and just had a 49-spot put on them by East Carolina.
It was an inspired effort by Tulsa at home last Wednesday against Boise State but if weren't for Boise head coach Chris Petersen kicking a field goal on 4th and goal from the 1 yard line instead of punching it in with 3 minutes to go 3rd quarter, they don't cover that game.
UTEP can play folks, and like I said, you don't start hanging a 58-spot on Houston at home unless you have some talent to get it done in this spot here.
I will gladly grab the touchdown and a hook with UTEP and just like Tulsa last week, look for this home dog to hunt and figure out a way to stay within the number.
10 DIME - LA ANGELS - Momentum back to the Angels.
After the dramatic win last night I look for the Angels bats to come alive in the warmth of Orange County and a 2nd look at CC Sabathia.
The bottom line is the Angels will get some scoring opportunities today but unlike New York where they didn't cash in, I like them to cash in here tonight.
As for Scott Kazmir, he is chomping at the bit to get out there and get the job done after his poor playoff start at Boston which saw him get hit for 5 runs in 6 innings of a 7-6 Angel comeback win.
All told, he has gone 2-2 in with a 1.73 ERA in 8 starts since joining the Angels while Los Angeles won 6 of those 8 starts overall.
In 14 career starts against the Yankees Kazmir is 6-5 with a rock solid ERA of 2.66. Great spot and great price to back the Angels.
I have been waiting for a CC Sabathia implosion and my gut tells me his first one is going to happen tonight.
Even with his game one win over the Angels Sabathia is still 6-7 lifetime against the Halos with an ERA around 5 so again, the Angels will be confident.
Los Angeles evens up the series 2-2 with this win tonight.

25 DIME - FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES -
10 DIME - FLORIDA STATE-NORTH CAROLINA UNDER - I'm going down swinging tonight with the Florida State offense.
We all know about the Tar Heels 3rd ranked defense, but what about their 117th ranked offense, which is 4th worst in Division 1A?
Only 3 teams in college football have a worse offense; Eastern Michigan, Washington State, and New Mexico State.
The bottom line is when you can't put up over 300 yards total offense at home versus Georgia Southern then I don't have too much confidence in your abilities to exploit any weaknesses of the FSU defense.
Take a look at these numbers:
268 total yards at Connecticut, 154 total yards at Georgia Tech, 174 total yards at home versus Virginia.
For crying out loud, Florida State put up over 500 yards total offense versus that Georgia Tech defense with 180 of those coming on the ground!
North Carolina rushed for a total of 33 yards against the Yelllow Jackets.
People, for a Division One team like North Carolina out of the ACC, that is flat out embarrassing as is 16 turnovers in only 6 games this year.
I understand the concerns of the Seminoles 106th ranked defense, but the question you have to ask yourself about this game is can the 117th ranked Tar Heels offense take advantage of that? I don't believe they can enough to win.
North Carolina will not be able to do enough offensively to win this game. They are going to have to make plays and as we have seen all year long, they just don't have it in them.
People are asking what happened to this Florida State team. Off a blowout win at BYU they have lost 3 in a row jump started by the home loss to South Florida.
My sources tell me that before the South Florida game while the players were waiting for Bowden to give them their pregame speech he was in his office with boosters so Jumbo Fisher got ready to give the speech when Amato, right in front of the team, pulled rank on Fisher and he gave the speech.
The entire offense staff walked out of the locker room and on to the field, a team divided and a 17-7 loss followed and since that moment, this team hasn't won since losing at Boston College and at home to Georgia Tech.
Considering the circumstances surrounding this FSU program right now this is as big a must win for Bobby Bowden as he has had in the last 10 years.
The board of trustees want him out at the end of this year, Chuck Amato thinks the job is his, Jumbo Fisher feels he has already been promised the job.
At the end of the day both of these defenses match up very well with the offenses and I don't see them coming near that posted total of 49.
The play is Florida State and the UNDER tonight.

I have the Angels in this series, and they might very well win tonight but with a 25 dime series play out there, I won't make the same mistake tonight as I did last night.
I probably should have hedged my 25 dime series loss with the Phillies last night but I didn't. Tonight I will with a 15 dime play on New York.

The perfect 3-0 Saturday. UTEP and Florida State the last 2 nights. 5 college winners in a row.
Look at the 5 calls. As solid a 5 calls as you will get. Now that is what I am talking about.
Would I have liked to see the 50 dimer on Arkansas Saturday win outright as a 24 1/2 point dog? Absolutely but it just wasn't meant to be.
That is now a 10-3 run in college and pro football with paid and comp plays since Saturday.

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano flat out knows how to stop this Army run game, and with the 11th best run defense in the entire country, he will once again force them to have to throw the football, which as we all know is something Army does not do very well.
Army is off a 4th quarter meltdown to Temple last week giving up 14 points in the 4th quarter of a 13-13 game to lost 27-14 and fail to cover.
The bottom line is the Black Knights don't match up with Rutgers at all, and you have seen it the last 2 years.
Off their very disappointing National TV loss to Pitt last Friday night you had better believe Schiano will not hesitate to put forth a great effort here under the TV cameras. This Rutgers team will be highly focused off the loss to Pitt.
It all boils down to the fact Army just doesn't match up at all with Rutgers and you will see domination by the Scarlett Knights again, just like we have the last 2 years.

Time to build off Arkansas last Saturday.
As solid a top play in college football as I have had in the last few years. A 24 1/2 point dog almost wins the game outright. By banging home this 2nd straight 50 dime winner today I will have pushed 50 dime football releases here in 2009 to 5-1. I'm talking 5 out of 6 with 50 dime top play winners this year. If can hit 5 out of every 6 top play releases with 50 dimers, I would take that for the rest of my handicapping career. Today is the day I get to push that record to 5-1 and I really feel, just as I did with Florida over Oklahoma, Arizona over Steelers, Saints over Jets and Arkansas over Florida, this game does the same thing today. WIN. Today is the day things continue turn for me. To continue something truly special in college football and keep this current rally going.
Now sit back and enjoy the ride because trust me my friends, it's going to be a wild ride.
50 DIME - DUKE BLUE DEVILS - I know it's hard for people to accept Duke as nothing more than a basketball school but trust me folks, it's becoming a football school right before your very eyes. And the reason why is David Cutcliffe. If you don't know who he is then allow me to introduce him to you. He was Peyton Manning's offensive coordinator at Tennessee and he was Eli's head coach at Ole Miss. The man knows how to coach offense. The Duke passing attack is the 8th best passing attack in the country and coming off a bye week facing a Maryland defense ranked 67th defending the air game, well let's just say Cutcliffe will be flat out dialed in on how to attack this young secondary of Maryland having 2 weeks to prepare. I had this team when they went into NC State as a 16 point underdog and not only won the game outright but they won it outright by 3 touchdowns. Duke has the better offense, the better defense, and without question the better QB in Thaddeus Lewis, and the better coach and not a single ounce of doubt in my mind they win this game by 14 points or more. Maryland can't get out of their way offensively ranked 88th in the country but even more alarming that that, how about 20 turnovers in 7 games this year. They can't hold on to the football. When you start turning the ball over 5 times at home to Rutgers, 4 times to Middle Tennessee State and Virginia, well let's just say it's time to call it a year. Another problem facing this young Maryland team today is this is only their 3rd road game of the year having lost the first two by an average margin of 25 points. This game today is a game about 2 teams heading in opposite directions. Duke is on the rise while Maryland is on the fall and they will be waving bye to each other as they pass each other on the ladder of success. with Duke being the team on the rise. All about Duke having all the success they want through the air versus a Maryland team that quite frankly can't get out of their own way.

15 DIME - KANSAS JAYHAWKS - Motivation. Will Bob Stoopes be able to motivate his team to play this game today off the loss to Texas and BCS dreams gone? My answer is no. Kansas is in a great spot here catching a boat load of points at home against a team deflated and playing with a backup QB. You couldn't ask for a better spot for Kansas to get the Sooners than they get today. The offenses match up very well with each other as the Sooners come in #15 in the country while Kansas comes in #16 so there will be some points scored. However, with losses to BYU and Texas on a neutral field and the loss to Miami/Florida on the road, this Oklahoma team is 0-3 away from Norman this year. Listen, no doubt about it, Kansas got caught looking ahead to this game last week at Colorado and they paid for it dearly but now with that out of the way, this game means everything to them and they have the talent to compete. I just don't believe Oklahoma will be able to run away from Kansas in this game and I will gladly grab a full touchdown with the Jayhawks today.

15 DIME - WASHINGTON HUSKIES - They were good to me over USC and I will go to the well with them here. I know Oregon has been putting up some great numbers but I truly believe the linemaker has over adjusted the line here based on public perception of this Oregon team. They shouldn't have beaten Utah at home but the QB of the Utah imploded in the 4th quarter and handed them the win. Yes, they hammered a flat CAL team who didn't show up because they were already mentally facing USC at home the next week and last week UCLA turned it over 3 times losing by 14. This Washington team is good folks and they have been competitive in every game this year with exception of their game at Stanford but who could blame them in that one coming off the upset of USC the week before. The bottom line is you are getting great value with the Huskies and it's value I will not pass up and it wouldn't suprise me if they stepped up and delivered the outright win just like they did over USC. In a game I feel will go down to the wire and is without question a single digit game, I will gladly back the juicy home dog to bark loudly today.

They flat out dominated Maryland.
Only once did Maryland drive the field all game, and even then they settled for a field goal. Their next field goal was set up by a Duke interception. Their only touchdown was on a 3rd and 18 screen pass from their own 33 that went for 67 yards for a touchdown.
Duke fumbled at the Maryland 30, going in for at least 3 points and lastly, how about a fumble at the Maryland 1 yard line to start the 4th quarter and for all intents and purposes, a push instead of a win.
So I move on to today and my 3rd straight 50 dime winner in the NFL. That is how good my 50 dime run has been in the NFL.
Not a bad 4-1-1 run with 50 dime releases. Not bad at all, but let's be honest with one another here, 5-1-1 is a whole lot better.
So let's get to it.
50 DIME - OAKLAND RAIDERS - Wouldn't suprise me if the Raiders knocked off the Jets exactly the way they did the Eagles.
Let's see, off a divisional home loss in OT, to traveling 3 time zones to the west coast, with a rookie QB who confidence is already shaky, facing an improving Oakland team without all pro nose guard Kris Jenkins.
And the linesmaker sees fit to ask the Jets to cover a near touchdown?
Folks, this may sound really simple but if you can beat the Philadelphia Eagles and their offense at home, you can beat the Jets and a rookie QB as well. It really is simple as that.
I like the way this Raiders defense matches up with the Jets offense. Forget about the Raiders offense. That isn't the matchup that will determine this football game. It will be the Jets offense with young Mr. Sanchez at the helm versus the Raiders defense.
Folks, they made Donovan McNabb look very average. Very average. In fact they made the whole Eagles team look average and that was an Eagles team playing arguably their best ball of the year.
Now they get a Jets team playing perhaps their worst ball of the year and the bottom line is this as bad a situation the Jets could be possiby coming into. Simple as that.
For head coach Rex Ryan the honeymoon is over and the reality is setting in that I just don't have that good a football team.
My 50 dimer is the Raiders and I wouldn't be suprised to see the Raiders do exactly to the Jets what they did to the Eagles and that is win the game outright.

15 DIME, 3-TEAM - 10-POINT TEASER - Going to have some fun today taking 10 points away from the Colts, Patriots and Steelers to prevent any crazy backdoor madness that may occur.
Let's start with the Colts coming off their bye week ready to just shred this Rams team much the way everyone else has. The Colts have put up over 30 points in their last 3 games and have beaten the Arizona Cardinals by 21 on the road and the Titans by 22 on the road.
There is nothing that leads me to believe they won't manhandle this Rams team by at least 17 points or more today.
All Colts teased down.
Same goes for the Patriots. They are getting a terrible Bucs team led by their head coach who resembles Gary Coleman from Different Strokes more so than a head coach in the NFL. Only difference is Mr. Drummond is nowhere in sight to help him.
I had New England 59-0 last week as a 15 dime winner, and I was impressed with how well their offense looked in the snow. For my dollar, Tom Brady and the Patriots are back.
Tease the Patriots down.
I don't see Bill Belichick taking this game lightly at all. He will do exactly what he did last week and that is win and win big. He wants his offense in rhythm, and his defense to get it going as well. I can't see how the Patriots don't win this game by 17 or more.

The Steelers are facing a Vikings team that has faced the Lions, Browns and Rams on the road. They should have lost to the Ravens and Niners at home, and maybe the Packers if not for 2 critical turnovers by Aaron Rodgers inside the Minnesota 20.
I see the Vikings as a 4-2 team or maybe even a 3-3 team, and when the smoke clears today, the Steelers will bring the Vikings down to earth. Simple as that. They are ripe to go down and with Winfield out for the Vikes, Big Ben will take advantage all day long.

10 DIME - CHICAGO BEARS - They are a very small dog here today but as of this writing the line is +1.
Fact of the matter is, I just don't think the this Bengals team is as good as everyone is making them out to be.
They are off 3 very emotional games with the Steelers, Ravens and Texans and now get a hungry Bears team off a tough loss to the Falcons.
Jay Cutler is looking much better running this Bears offense and as each week goes by the Bears offense is getting that much better.
Lastly, the underdog in every single Bengals game this year has covered the number and I have no problem grabbing this small dog to get it done once again.
Bears are 10 dime dog #1 today.
10 DIME - ATLANTA FALCONS -I don't care if the Cowboys are off a bye week, they are just not a good enough football team to be laying more than a field goal versus a team the caliber of the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons just seem to continue to find ways to win football games, and I love the way they match up across the board with this Dallas bunch.
This game will come down to which QB will be able to make plays, consistent plays and my money is on Matt Ryan.
I love the way this kid has been playing but more importantly, like the way they are calling the plays for him.
This is a game that will go down to the wire and getting 4 points is without question the way to go. I will force this Cowboy team to play 60 minutes of perfect football to cover this number.
For the most part they haven't been able to do this with any consistency and that has been their problem under Wade Phillips.
I am going to war with the Falcons plus some really nice points this afternoon in Big D.
10 DIME - MIAMI DOLPHINS - This game reminds me of the Super Bowl between the Giants and the Bills. You remember that one don't you? Norwood miss.
Funny thing is, you remember what the line was for that game? Yup, Bills -6 1/2. Hmmmm.
You remember the head coach for the Giants? Yup, Parcells, now the GM of the Dolphins.
The key to that game was time of possession. The Giants kept Jim Kelly on the sidelines holding the ball for 39 minutes and it was the key to the victory for Bill Parcells and his Giants.
Trust me, with a bye week to help his head coach prepare for this Saints offense and the gameplan will be exactly as it was against Peyton Manning and the Colts. Keep Brees sitting on the sidelines.
Give the Saints credit they are winning impressively but really against who? Nobody who will attack you in the manner in which the Dolphins will.
In my opinion the best team in the NFL is the Colts, and Miami took them to the wire, which is exactly what I feel they will do here.
And the cherry on top of the Sunday is they catch the Saints in the ultimate flat spot off the big win over the Giants.
Wouldn't suprise me if the Dolphins shocked the world and won this game outright.
10 DIME - KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - The San Diego Chargers shouldn't be laying points against anybody right now. Simple as that. They are as poorly coached as any team in the NFL.
Their offensive line is in shambles and coming off the home loss to Denver, a game they had 2 weeks to prepare for, well let's just say they are in for a long afternoon versus the Chiefs.
Kansas City just keeps getting better each week under head coach Todd Haley, who I feel will coach circles around Norv Turner today.
I used the Chiefs as a dog over the Cowboys and they didn't let me down, and I feel today they are a very live dog versus a Chargers team that just can't seem to find themselves.
Chiefs played the Chargers very tough last year losing both games by a single point and have actually covered 5 of the last 7 meetings, and 3 of the last 4 at home.
You throw in a 1-4 road chalk run for the Chargers and this adds up to another Chiefs home cover and possible outright upset.
All over Kansas City again today.
