#394CHRISTMAS DAY
NOTE:
Merry Christmas. Really take a moment and enjoy this day with family and friends. It's what it's all about.
Felt great to kick off this Christmas with the 3-0 sweep last night good for +75 dimes and even more enjoyable watching a 12 point underdog deliver an emphatic double digit outright win.
Let's see, Wyoming +10 wins outright in OT, and then SMU steps up and destroys Nevada while in between I cash in with Rutgers, and Utah.
You add the total winner and the teaser winner on SMU and Under and it all adds up to a 6-1 bowl start and I am quite confident it's the best record on this site so far.
Today the focus shifts to the NBA and the NFL, and a chance to pick up another 70 dimes of net profit.
Now let me take a second to be perfectly clear about something real quick.
In doing radio early in the week and talking about games, I give out what I feel at the time is the right side but I most certainly always reserve the right to change my opinion.
I was forced to talk about this game in quite a few radio markets and early in the week I talked about the Titans and how they are in a must win and most certainly seemed the right side.
As the week progressed it became clearly to me that the Titans are the wrong side and San diego is the play. A big play.
That is why I always say make sure you check the website for situations like this because as I said above, you want me to talk about games that early in the week, I always reserve the right to change to what I feel is the right side.
And the Chargers are most certainly the right side of this game tonight and a very big right side for me.
50 DIME - SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - (if 3 you buy the 1/2 and get 3 1/2. if 2 1/2 you buy off the 1/2 to 3) - The dream dies today for the Titans.
Listen, it made for a great story for awhile, but the cold harsh reality about this team from the very beginning was they just weren't a playoff caliber team.
Folks, you don't lose a game in the NFL 59-0 and rally to make the playoffs. Not happening. At least not in my lifetime.
In this 7-1 run to get back to 7-7, the Titans have only played 2 teams who currently have a winning record, Indy and Arizona.
The Dolphins, Jags and Texans are all 7-7 while the Niners, Bills and Rams all have losing records.
Their only loss in this run is against the Colts, who just happen to be the # 1 seed and now they are going to fall to the # 2 seed today.
All this talk about a short week, traveling on Christmas is just that, talk.
Fact of the matter is this is the hottest December team I can remember winning 17 in a row, and 12-0 under head coach Norv Turner.
Bottom line is you can see how attractive the 3 1/2 points are to me tonight.
The only teams the Titans have faced this season that have winning marks are New England, Arizona and Indianapolis twice. The Titans got a miracle win over Arizona while going 0-3 straight-up and against the spread against the Colts and Patriots losing by a combined margin of 117-26.
They can beat the also-rans of the NFL, but not the elite as they are going once again fail miserably against the big boys.
Lastly, against the Chargers, Jeff Fisher comes up short every time as he is 0-5 SU and ATS and tonight you can make that 0-6.
Folks, I have a team that has won 9 in a row getting points and that is good enough for me. Win tonight, wrap up the # 2 seed and rest all your banged up players next week at home against the Redskins.
Sounds good to me.
10 DIME - NEW YORK KNICKS - Like the way this team is playing.
They have won 7 of their last 9 SU, and 6 of 9 against the number, and now catch the Heat on Christmas in the good old Garden.
Heat off a solid win at home over the Jazz but folks, the Jazz have a history of imploding on the road.
This is a Heat team that just finished a 6 game home stand and now takes to the road for the first time since December 6th and on Christmas no less.
Sorry folks but just like the Cavs above, I will force these Christmas road teams to show up and play with 60 minutes of intensity when they wish they were at home like everyone else.
Knicks are the play.
10 DIME - LA LAKERS - Tough spot for the Cavs.
Playing on Christmas against this Lakers bunch is tough on anybody but for a team that lost at Dallas on this road trip who were playing without big Dirk, and struggled at Sacramento, I just don't see them staying inside single digits of LA today.
I mean, you can't handle the Kings? You let them take you to OT? Can I trust you in LA on Christmas? Nope.
The Lakers when motivated, and laying a manageable number are a dangerous animal.
In fact, the Lakers have laid 7 or less only twice this year and covered both destroying the Hornets 104-88 and the Suns 121-102.
That is good enough for me.

#401WED..... Another 150 Dimes of Action
NOTE: This extention will stay on-line until the Holiday Bowl at 8pm eastern.
50 DIME - BOWLING GREEN-IDAHO OVER - I can't see this game not going over the posted total.
Of all the bowl games we have this year, this game has the 2nd highest posted total on the board at it's current number of 68.
Let's start with SMU-Nevada which closed at 71, and was never even close with a 45-10 final while just the other night A&M/Georgia was posted at 66 and they sniffed it at 44-20.
However, this game between these two is a whole different ball game entirely.
The strength of both offenses plays right into the weakness of both defenses and normally when you get something like that it is flat out a shootout.
Bowling Green will air it out with Tyler Sheehan to Freddie Barnes against the 113th pass defense in the entire country that hasn't had an INT since October.
Idaho will run the ball against the 103rd rush defense in the entire country, and they will get their big plays on the ground.
In a near pick'em game, Vegas is telling you this game will go right down to the wire and it wouldn't suprise me if we had OT.
Their last game of the year Idaho played Utah State and they combined 101 points in a 52-49 Idaho win over a Utah State who threw for close to 400 yards with the 35th best passing attack.
Bowling Green has the 8th best with the best receiver in the country playing the last game of his collegiate career 5 catches short of the NCAA record for catches in a season.
The Falcons scored over 30 points in 8 of their 12 games this year while Idaho surpassed that mark in 7 of their 12.
I will come strong with the Over (68 points as I type this), and call for the most entertaining bowl game so far with big plays, a ton of points and who has the ball last wins, maybe in OT.
50 DIME - ARIZONA WILDCATS - I will let Nebraska get all the hype they want coming off the near miss of beating Texas but the fact still remains, they have no offense.
And the bottom line for me in this game is the fact if you are going to cover a number like this you have got to be able to put some points on the board and Nebraska has trouble doing that.
This line has moved to the Cornhuskers being the favorite and getting value with what I feel is the better team and believe it or not is the better overall defense, I will gladly take the points.
Nebraska was 1 second away from a BCS bowl berth, and that has got to still weigh heavily on their mind here regardless of what they portray to the press.
This game will come down who is able to make more plays offensively when they are their to make and Arizona has that edge, especially with Nebraska starting true freshman Green.
Green will be asked to manage the game, take no chances, do not turn the ball over and let's keep the game close and win it with my defense or special teams in the 4th quarter.
That may sound great and look good on paper but asking a true freshman to do that against a well scouted defense who will be perfectly game planed will play right into the hands of Arizona.
Wouldn't suprise me if before games end Pelini benches the true freshman and looks for Lee to rally them.
I will ride the Arizona Wildcats in this game who's defense will match up really well with anything Nebraska tries to do offensively and call for this small dog to win the game outright.
50 DIME - NEBRASKA-ARIZONA UNDER - This total is posted at 40 1/2 for a reason.
It's because of the Nebraska defense. Plain and simple.
They are ranked 8th nationally in overall defense, and after their performance against Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game they deserve all the hype they get.
However, don't lose sight of Arizona and their defense which matched up against the poor excuse of a Nebraska offense, will look very good as well.
This game will be much like an NFL game in it's approach by the two head coaches which will consist of playing the field position game and look for my defense to make a play.
Games stay Under the total because teams settle for field goals instead of touchdowns when they get in the red zone, and I see that being the case here as well.
My dollar is going to be on the Under here as defense will be the name of the game here and I will force these offenses to find a way to get over this number.
Personally, I just don't see it.

#406THURSDAY FADES
NOTE:
Tennessee getting points against Virginia Tech was always going to be one of my strongest bowl plays.
Yes, I would have loved to have built the bankroll a bit higher but the bottom line is it is what it is.
It wouldn't suprise me if the Vols to beat Virginia Tech today just as I said North Carolina would on a Thursday night ESPN game as a 15 1/2 point underdog, one of my best calls of the year.
I like Navy to hang with Missouri. The free pick of Minnesota over Iowa State should be a fun game to watch.
That is my plan of attack on this last day of 2009. And it's a plan of attack I am very comfortable with.
Time to close out 2009 in style.
75 DIME - TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS - Who is Virginia Tech and the ACC to be laying more than a field goal to anybody out of the SEC?
There are two teams playing for the national championship game and that is Texas and Alabama.
Well, you saw Nebraska almost knock off the Longhorns in the Big 12 championship game and look what they did to Arizona last night.
Well, Tennessee for all intents and purposes beat Alabama, even if their stupid field goal kicker couldn't knock thru a 44 yarder with under a mintue to play.
That is the talent in which the Vols bring to the table in this matchup and for me the bottom line is this is way to many points for Tech to be laying.
This is a Tennessee Vols defense that has gotten much better as the year has gone on and with ex NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin on the sidelines for the Vols with this much time to prepare, I like my chances with the dog tonight.
If Tennessee doesn't turn the ball over I feel just as I did with my call of North Carolina over Virginia Tech, I feel Tennessee can beat them to tonight.
The ACC is 1-7 SU, and 2-6 ATS versus the SEC with Clemson getting the cover over Kentucky as the only win lately.
And if you have an SEC bowl underdog facing a team off of a SU win, how about the SEC being 9-1 ATS.
Grab more than a field goal with Tennessee and don't be suprised boys and girls if Tennessee wins this game outright.
25 DIME - NAVY MIDSHIPMEN -Who is Missouri to be laying this kind of number to a Navy squad that is 3-1 ATS as an underdog this year?
I am talking about a squad that had a near miss win at Ohio State to start the year, battled Pittsburgh on the road to a 13 point loss which was much closer than the final score would lead you to believe and wins over Wake Forest and Notre Dame.
Navy loves to be bowling and it shows by their 4-1 ATS mark last 5 years.
Military academies are 20-8-1 ATS and it starts with their discipline and their preparation. Most other schools can't match it.
Navy is just the kind of team to give Missouri fits here and the Tigers are about to find out what Ohio State, Pitt, Wake Forest and Notre Dame found out, this is one pesky underdog.
The Tigers were hoping for a bigger bowl game as they were kind of passed over for the Insight Bowl, which was where Iowa State got to go.
Have to believe the team that wants to be here more is the team that will end up covering and for me that team is Navy.

#407JAN 1, 2010
Start off the new year with 150 Dimes of Prime Fade.
75 DIME - FLORIDA GATORS - The more I looked at this game the more I realized the Gators were the right side of this game.
Let's us start with the fact this line is -13 (as I post this analysis). Who does that tell you Vegas is begging you to bet? Exactly, Cincinnati.
Next, the Bearcats shouldn't be here. Pitt should be, and the determining factor for me is the fact the Gators are going to be able to do anything they want offensively.
Urban Meyer and his announcement has got to inspire this Gator team and I believe it will.
Tim Tebow playing his last game and you had better believe he will go out a winner.
The Gators defensive coordinator Strong will coach his last game here before departing for Louisville and with his entire defense back from last year, this may be their best game.
The Bearcats haven't seen this type of pressure from a front 7 all year long and when your offensive line is going to get overwhelmed to the level they are, long day for Tony Pike.
He didn't look all that good against Pitt and trust me, the pressure he sees here is the most he will have seen all year.
Just look at Cincy down the stretch.
They struggled to beat Uconn at home 47-45, how about West Virginia at home 24-21 followed by a 13 point win over Illinois and then finally Pitt 45-44.
I want you to think about this for one moment. The UConn Huskies came into your house and put up 45 points on you. That was UConn! I'm talking about a motivated Florida team here.
A few years ago Hawaii played Georgia in the Sugar bowl with Colt Brennan and his high scoring offense, and Hawaii got blown out because Brennan had no time to throw.
Guess what, the same will be said about Pike when this game has come and gone.
Gators will win this game by 17 points or more.
25 DIME - NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS - Way too many points here.
I respect Auburn and what they have done this year, and the improvements they have made - but covering this number is a too much for them to bite off.
As impressive as Wisconsin was against Miami-Florida, and to know this Northwestern team beat them at home tells me a lot about the Wildcats.
This is a team that played their best ball down the stretch with a 17-10 win at Iowa, a 21-16 win at Illinois, and a 33-31 win over the Badgers.
The Tigers come in off the near-miss win over Alabama, and now look for bowl success and they might have a bit more speed but this is a live dog here.
In the last 2 years Northwestern has been a dog 13 times and they got the money in 10 of those 13 games, with 8 outright upsets.
That is good enough for me as the Wildcats get the job done here and cover the number.
25 DIME - FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES - Going to war with the Seminoles.
First and foremost, just not a believer in West Virginia nor anything they did all year long.
They come into this game here averaging just under 21 points over their last 5 games and the fact of the matter is I just don't trust Brown at QB for the Mountaineers.
Away from home this WVU team was just 1-3 ATS, and with all the hype surrounding this being Bowden's last game, I will go to war with that hype here.
The Seminoles come in here off a loss to the Gators and if you thought that leaves them in a letdown situation, think again, as Florida State is 10-1 SU and ATS after losing to Florida.
Lastly add the fact the ACC is a rock solid 13-3 ATS versus the Big East and for my buck, it's about Florida State this afternoon.
Been a great run Bobby, take your lap around the winners circle and enjoy being retired.
25 DIME - OHIO STATE BUCKEYES - I will roll the dice with Jim Tressel as a dog anytime anywhere.
The Buckeyes excel in the underdog role, going 4-1 ATS last 5 times getting points winning 3 of those games outright.
It has been a great run for Oregon through the Pac-10, but the fact of the matter is they haven't seen a defense like the one they see today.
There isn't a single ounce of doubt in my mind this Ohio State team is the better all around team and it's not like they haven't seen the spread, as they run a variation of it.
The key is the Buckeyes defense and the intensity in which they will play, and I will gladly back this live dog today against the Pac-10.
I've always said Tressel as an underdog is a heckuva football coach, and I expect him to once again deliver as a dog.
Get on the Buckeyes today.

#411MONDAY
NOTE:
Sometimes in the bowl season, you get matchups where one team faces another team which truly doesn't deserve to be there.
I have talked on radio the past few weeks about how the BCS dropped the ball with this matchup and how we, football fans in america, should have been treated to TCU-Florida while Cincinnati and Boise State went and had fun.
But nope, let's stick the world with a rematch of two teams that faced each other last year. IDIOTS.
Boise State went undefeated. Big Fuc$%^&@^&ing deal. Hell, any team in the Big Ten, ACC, SEC or Big East would have gone undefeated with their schedule.
If I have said it once over the last few weeks I will say it again, Boise State doesn't deserve to be here.
Let me take you to a game earlier this year, Boise State at Tulsa.
With just over 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter leading 25-14, Boise State faced a 4th and goal from the Tulsa 1 yard line.
Now if you are Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, you know, coaches with some balls, you call timeout and tell your offense, "Go back out there and get me a yard and let's put this game away and show the world we mean business."
As soon as I tell my offense that and send them back out onto the field, I go over to my defense, which has given up just 1 first down since there was 2 minutes to go in the first quarter, we don't get this you go get that ball back for me.
It's a great message to send to your team but not Petersen. He elects to kick the field goal. On 4th and goal from the one. Up 11. With his defense playing lights out. Against Tulsa no less. That was all I needed to see with Mr. Petersen.
My point in all this is I don't trust this man against big competition. Simple as that and what Boise State is about to see tonight is a tornado, a hurricane the likes they have never seen since Petersen has been there.
He lobbied hard to get a bowl game. Needed some cheese to go with all that wine we had to hear with Boise this and Boise that.
Tonight he will be sorry he whined so much, because they are going to get lit up because they really shouldn't be here. He better have the Cincinnati Bearcats number because he is going to have to call them after this game to have someone he can relate to after this beating.
Now here are some other reasons why TCU wins by 21 points or more tonight.
100 DIME - TCU HORNED FROGS - (if line is 7 1/2, you buy the 1/2 and lay 7. Never get beat by the hook.) - The Horned Frogs will dominate this team tonight.
First and foremost, Boise State doesn't deserve to be here. They really don't.
They had one win of any significance, and that one just happened to be the first game out of the box at home against Oregon and I think you would agree if they played today, Oregon would blow them out.
Allow me to put in perspective what is about to happen to Boise State tonight.
Against the Utah Utes, a team that played a tougher schedule than Boise State and yet put up similar defense numbers, lost to TCU 55-28.
I am talking about TCU putting up 55 points on the 19th best overall defense in the entire country and they did it rather easily.
Folks, Boise comes in with the 14th best defense against a joke of a schedule. How much of a joke you ask? Take a look at this.
With exception of the 36th ranked Oregon defense they faced on the blue carpet to start the year which held them to 19 points, the following are the total defense rankings of Boise State's other 11 opponents. Please note: Cal Davis isn't ranked.
Don't adjust your eyes: 70th, 98th, 87th, 85th, 93rd, 108th, 60th, 107th, 113th and 96th. I don't see #1 in there anywhere do you?
Fact of the matter is Boise is in for a world of trouble tonight because they are matched up in a bowl game they shouldn't have been awarded.
I had the same feeling with Cincinnati versus Florida. Didn't think Cincy based on their close calls along the way deserved to be in the Sugar Bowl. I felt all along the matchup we all should be seeing tonight was Florida-TCU.
However, it is what it is and on paper and on the field this game is a total mismatch across the board.
You look at the Mountain West in bowl games this year and you will see domination like Wyoming outright while Air Force, Utah and BYU all won by double digits.
Conversely, the WAC has been an embarrassment with Nevada and Fresno State losing outright as double digit favorites while Idaho was just flat out lucky.
This line should be TCU -14 and even then I would lay it as the #1 defense in the entire country makes a huge statement and the TCU offense has their way with an overrated Boise State defense.
Thank god Boise coach Chris Petersen got a contract extension before this game because after this beating his team is going to take tonight, they might want to reconsider.
25 DIME - BOISE STATE-TCU UNDER -It's going to be a long night for the Boise State offense.
This is the #1 defense in the country playing on the national stage. You don't think they are going to be motivated to show the world just how good they are?
They rank #2 against the run, #3 against the pass putting them #1 in the country.
When you are team like Boise State, and you are facing the best defense you have seen all year long, practice against your own team can't prepare you for what you are about to see.
This is going to be a complete dominant effort by the TCU defense as the world takes notice of just how good this defense is.
As mentioned above, when all you faced the cupcake defenses that Boise State has faced this year, they just won't be prepared for the speed, athleticism or strength of TCU tonight.
Take the Under in tonight's game.
25 DIME - TCU 1ST HALF PLAY - I was a little perturbed at myself for not taking the Gators in the first half over Cincinnati so I am not about to make the same mistake twice.
Boise State will not know what hit them from the very beginning. The speed of which TCU will be coming at Kellen Moore, who really isn't that mobile anyway.
I see line value with TCU in the first half as I have them jumping out early and getting to a double digit first half lead.
Love the First half play of the Horned Frogs and feel it's great value.

This statement shows you what a complete nudnik Lang really is. He's been bellyaching about Petersen not going for it on 4th down against Tulsa all season long because he blames him for losing a big bet on them. And since this clueless moron holds grudges like an elephant, he exacts his revenge by picking against teams he feels screwed him in the past.

#415TUESDAY
NOTE:
Let's just say Boise coach Chris Petersen is a better coach than Gary Patterson and leave it at that.
I have been riding the dogs the last week and wouldn't you know I back the favorite and then sit back and just like Miami-Florida I watch the favorite implode.
It's just amazing to me how whenever I have a big, big play, I sit back and watch the QB I am backing, in this case Dalton of TCU, do something he hasn't done all year long, which last night was throw INT's.
Was TCU the wrong side to begin with? Yes probably and I am man enough to give credit where credit is due and that is the coaching staff of Boise, which flat out coached circles around TCU.
How can I sit in my leaving room 2,500 miles away and yell out to watch out for the fake punt, and yet TCU isn't prepared for it? If you know Boise, scout Boise, have watched Boise, you knew a trick play was coming somewhere.
And with just over 9 minutes left in the game you just knew something was coming before regulation was over and sure enough just as I said, they did it and as head coach Patterson of TCU would say, "They caught us flat footed."
So again, tip my cap to Chris Petersen of Boise, he got me one more time this year. Nice job Chris. Congrats.
75 DIME - IOWA HAWKEYES
25 DIME - IOWA HAWKEYES 1ST HALF PLAY
25 DIME - IOWA HAWKEYES MONEY LINE PLAY -Back on the dog.
First and foremost, when you have the defensive personnel that Iowa has and with this much time to prepare for the vaunted triple option, have to like my chances catching more than a field goal.
Last year LSU had over a month to gameplan for the Yellow Jackets option attack and held them to 3 points and this year the Georgia Bulldogs had 2 weeks and beat them.
Iowa is well coached, arguably one of the best coached team in America and when it comes to bowl games, well let's just say the proof is in the pudding.
In 2003 they were getting +3 1/2 against Florida and won outright 27-17. In '04 there were getting +6 1/2 and won outright 30-25. In 05 they were a pickem against Florida and lost 31-24. In '06 they were +9 and lost to Texas 26-24 getting the easy cover.
And finally, last year they were -3 1/2 and crushed South Carolina 31-10.
I hear all this stuff about the G'tech team speed, and how they are going to run right by Iowa and yes, I expect the Yellow Jackets to some success offensively but folks, that is not where this game is going to be won or lost for Georgia Tech. It's going to be won or lost by the Georgia Tech defense.
This isn't a very good stop unit and especially in the area of strength for Iowa, running the football.
If you are going to cover more than a field goal in college football you had better be able to stop the run and considering the fact Georgia Tech gave up 339 yards rushing to Georgia and 323 against Clemson to close out the year, I don't have the confidence they can shut down Iowa.
Allow me to put it in it's proper perspective for you:
On the road at Penn State, in front of over 100,000 people, against the 6th best run defense in the country, Iowa ran for 163 yards. Do you think for one second Georgia Tech and their 65th ranked run defense is going to shut down Iowa?
I was talking to one of the starting linebackers for Wake Forest just yesterday at my gym here in Florida, a kid who had a helluva game against Tech, a game Wake should have won and I asked him about Tech.
He ranted about their offense but he laughed about their defense and when I asked him, based on what he saw on film and what he saw in playing them, would Tech be able to stop the Iowa run game, he completely agreed with me, Tech's defense is a liability against the run.
I am talking 7 times this year teams ran for over 175 yards with 4 of them getting over 200 yards.
I don't care at what level you are handicapping a game, college or pro, if you can't stop the run you are going to have problems and as we have seen in the past with Iowa and bowl games, if you have a weakness you had better believe head coach Kirk Ferentz is going to exploit it.
The Hawkeyes are a hard team to blow out, I don't care who you are. They just don't beat themselves, play sound fundamental defense and are very well coached.
We have seen a resurgence with the Big Ten in bowl games this year as an underdog.
Wisconsin won outright as a dog, Ohio State won outright as a dog, Northwestern should have won outright as a dog and if Michigan State hadn't suspended their entire football team I believe they would have beaten Texas Tech outright as well.
The bottom line is I am going down swinging with the underdog who across the board has the better defense with time to prepare and in bowl games folks, that is a recipe for winning success.
Iowa is a top ten defense in the country. They held every BCS bowl opponent they played this year to under 15 points a game and yes, they had 8 come from behind victories to get here which does have me a bit nervous about how good they really are.
However, fact of the matter is they are here, they did figure out a way to win those games and this is a game about X's and O's, matchups across the board of Georgia Tech versus Iowa, strengths and weaknesses.
And when your weakness plays to the strength of your opponent, it's always hard to blow that team out.
As I said, Iowa is a great bowl team, you have their bowl success noted above and I can't discount this coach getting points with time to prepare against anybody. He has proven to be just that good. End of story.
I made the mistake of going against Wisconsin against a faster Miami/florida team and I paid for it dearly. I won't make that same mistake twice in a bowl season.
I am riding Iowa in the first half, Iowa plus the points for the game and I am rolling the dice with Iowa to pull off the upset in another bowl game, just like they did in 03 beating Florida, 04 beating LSU and in 06 they should have beaten Texas.

#417In February of 2006 I decided to reign in my ratings, generally going between 5 and 100 dimes to aide clients in money management. And the 50 and 100 dimes plays are few and far between. Generally I only release them when I'm playing when I see an opportunity to go for the jugular and especially when I've built a nice bankroll and playing with my man's money. Remember, however, I feel I also have a responsibility to manage your bankroll and that's why I take into consideration how I've been doing when I release larger plays. Of course I have no control over when customers become customers, but when I sense an opportunity to go for the jugular, I don't pass it up as long as I remain steadfast to my money management principles and bankroll allocation.
Risking 100-150 Dimes every day for a week........... yeah, great "money management."
