Living in AUS, we have both a free national healthcare system (medicare) and a sizable private self-funded healthcare sector, yet we are the number 1 economy in the world atm throughout these 'tough' times. From an outsiders perspective looking in, on a socioeconomic level your country (USA) needs to firstly reduce the powers of special interests lobby groups because the power they yield against the common voice is from what ive seen quite incredible. Our country would never allow groups whose self interest was so obvious and apparent for self and profit to operate against the wider interests of its society....

Our country should be the prime example of having a free health system for all and a productive and thriving economy at the same time. We are looking at upping interest rates twice b4 the end of the year, such is the pace of the economy atm. So it can be done but without a common consensus and willingness to work towards the greater good, then a 3rd world socially inefficient healthcare system is where the majority of citizens in your country could ever hope for.

I hope the USA can dig itself out from its current predictament, needless to say the last 10years of neglect and rampant self regulation are going to take a time to repair. I wish you only hope and the likedness to see a more capitalist/altruistic USofA back and better than ever

I agree. Europeans are drowning in taxes but most do get some kind of healthcare coverage. So I'm not sure how we are supposed to have "free" healthcare without higher taxes.

It boggles my mind how this $1 trillion program won't raise taxes or cause major cuts in other programs. Again, I think there are bigger problems we are facing than healthcare right now.

And how much do u think Americans are paying right now in insurance premiums, deductibles, specialists, drugs, etc?

So instead of paying those premiums we pay higher taxes (in the form of higher gas tax) which covers every American instead of the privileged few. So whats wrong with that?

The only ones opposing universal healthcare are the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and congressmen that have been paid off by the former two.

Health Care is a totally separate issue. All we want is the right plan. Not any plan. I am for health care reform but not one filled with lies. This president has shown he fiscally irresponsible and if he and Pelosi pass the BILL they want, it will bankrupt the country in all likelyhood.

I do get it actually. You are a follower and I am a leader. You want more government in your life, I want less. If they have ever shown to be fiscally responsible and controlled spending in the past, I might be a little more receptive to give them more powers. Otherwise, you can be blindly follow them all you like.
