So you spend $200 on computer or TV instead which I'm sure they all have and not a generator for what they really need..

Yes poor planning.. Has nothing to do with income as long as there is an income.. You can even trade something you own for a generator if you are poor.. Sorry pal not buying into your poor and can't afford a generator theory.. Make it happen I say, if you can pay your electricity bill every month I'm pretty sure you can find a way to buy a used gas powered electric generator..

Fema and other rescue organizations will come to their rescue though so no worries..

This is what I got - Ready to fire up and plug into the refrigerator and other electric appliances.. Lighting too no problem. Don't need candles..

Rising temperatures caused by global warming make hurricanes stronger and make sea levels higher which increases the damage done by storm surges. Trump and the other republicans are refusing to deal with the problem, so the devastation caused by hurricanes will increase as the years go by.

More like other world leaders and other polluting Countries are refusing to address the problem.. America can be clean as can be which it almost is now and the rest of the world will still pollute and cause global warming.. A blind man with basic common sense can see this..

More and more people are driving electric cars in America now.. We will always remain a relatively clean Country.. It's everyone else you need to worry about and Trump and the republicans can't fix that.. It's going to happen regardless and that's that.. Move to higher ground..

I have this generator (I live in South Florida) I paid about $2,000 for it twelve years ago.

Smart man. They are still pricey today new but you can find deals.... We are talking top of the line with these Honda generators .. There are cheaper ones out there as well.

Georgia might have a lot more beach front property after this storm is done.

I was dating a beautiful girl that lived in Kendall at the time. Her apartment had some windows break too. She evac'ed to my place in Los Angeles like the week before. We had just had a huge earthquake hit LA a few weeks before Andrew. I use to live on the beach in Marina Del Rey and I was nervous as shit that we were going to get a tsunami. It's amazing how most of these events seem to happen in the same year?

Are you still in S. Florida?

I was telling the kids that the map may look a little different after this weekend. It's still a few days out, and may even turn to the Gulf, who knows?

Those guys in the Islands are knowing now.

That's a damn good price on that generator. I wonder if that site is legit? I use to have the eu2000i and it was the quietest generator I've ever had. I loaned it out to a friend in LA and haven't seen it since. I was looking around for another one that I could take to track meets and football games because it's so quiet and they were expensive even on Craigslist. I ended up getting a battery pack that makes zero noise and can power up all my devices on the road.

I have a large 15,000 watt generator for backup at home. Fukker drinks gasoline. I'll go through 5 gallons every 12 - 14 hours. It can be setup for propane and natural gas and also attached to the electrical panel but I haven't done that yet. The best way to go is to convert to natural gas. That way you never have to worry about filling it, which is a pia in weather events where everyone is looking for gas.

You can buy a used electric generator in Puerto Rico for cheaper then $200 I'm sure.. If you own a home or rent one you should have $200 especially if you are aware that you are hurricane prone and likely to have power outages..
I don't have alot of sympathy for poor planners.. Sorry... Wish them the best though..
Jibbby - I would think it would be impossible to find a $200 generator on any island. Used or new. You have to ship the generator in from JAX for PR and you're going to pay per pound which is not cheap. The average citizen is not going to own one because the price of petrol is ridiculous. Some people are turning to battery/solar combos which are more economical. Some even have small wind turbines too.

Many people on these islands are very good at planning for hurricanes. They have to or perish. Most are not poor planners, they are just poor.

                                    Maybe.

You can even get a 300watt car inverter kit off amazon for $25 bucks, idle your car and plug in a few appliances and run electricity that way to your home or apartment on a long extension cord.. A car can idle for a long time on a full tank of gas as well.. That's a poor mans emergency generator option..

Definitely will get a generator after this. Didn't even think about it. Not so much poor planning as just moving from Kentucky to Florida there are many different scenarios that can play out that never take place in KY so they go overlooked. I'm used to seeing hurricanes on TV but by the time they reached Louisville we just got some thunderstorms.

I do have a 500w energizer inverter I use for work, so worst comes to worst can use my electric griddle with that, or grab a electric hot plate if there's a boil water advisory.

I wouldn't even try using an electric griddle with a car inverter. It would most likely pop your fuses as it needs more like 1,500 watts. Best thing for cooking is propane or gas. Inverters are good for small appliances but forget about running things like microwaves and air conditioners.

Yep, which means a chance for much greater loss of life versus slow flooding Harvey that damaged thousands of homes with 50+ inches of rain. I would be nowhere near this beast.
