Still a long ways off to make these projections the hurricanes can die off to a tropical storm's pretty quickly I did study meteorology so I have a major clue

JJ - it will be a miracle if this hurricane turns out to be nothing. A miracle. Look at how tightly wound it is. I have never seen a hurricane so perfectly centered. The eye is perfectly round with no cloud cover. There's only been one storm in the Atlantic with more winds than this storm in history.

This storm is headed straight for Florida. There's no doubt. There is nothing to move this storm out of the way. Florida is about to take a direct hit. It's just a matter of where, when and for how long. Hopefully it moves over quickly, hits land, slows some, so you don't have sustained damage but looking at the northern jet stream, it may keep the Hurricane hovering right on top of Florida like Harvey stayed on top of Houston. Another problem is that this hurricane will pack wind and rain. This beast does not look good.

With all the billions in past and future hurricane damage I'm surprised they haven't succeeded in finding an effective seeding or preemptive seeding technique. I know it's the size of Ohio but flying 1000 planes over it to dump whatever or WTF IDK towing some giant ice blocks in front of it would save a bunch in damages and lives.

People in Puerto Rico are scrambling and panicking right now big time!!!.. CNN is covering Puerto Rico and the winds are just now starting to pick up.. Locals are calling it a monster and not a hurricane that's coming.. They are gonna take the brunt of this Category 5 head on as I'm seeing on the map now.. Bye Bye Puerto Rico!!!

These hurricanes are so huge with so much energy, we really don't have anything comparable in power. An average hurricane has more energy than 10,000 nuclear bombs. 1 hurricane is about half the total generating capacity of the entire earth. There's not enough planes on earth that could even make a dent. You can't build a wall high enough, you can't disrupt jet streams. Mother nature is the baddest muther on the planet.

Right but we built the atomic bomb from a tiny molecular reaction. Seems like with trillions at stake these days with potential damages we would have focused research on finding something that works. We have tried things in the past but they were kind of half ass efforts. If we wanted to and if we put in the money and man power we could at least figure out something to reduce hurricanes by a couple categories or stop them before they start IMO. Humans supposedly caused global warming but we can't figure out a way to weaken a hurricane?

Puerto Rico has high mountains that people can at least run away from the storm surge. Most of these other islands are flat as a pancake where a 10 foot storm surge can flood entire islands.

but it looks absolutely awful for PR. Very few structures can take sustained 175 mph winds.

The only thing I could think would be atomic bombs that might disrupt temperature, water levels and possible air currents in an area but then you have to deal with nuclear fallout. Not to mention possible tsunami's.

Lot easier probably to build stronger homes and reinforce levee's/dams, etc.

I read somewhere they're talking places in Puerto Rico being without power for months. Literally months, just insane. I lost power at my house for 2 days in July and was lost. Makes it tough to keep things cold and to cook.

They do have little machines called generators these days that run off gas for years if need be.. You plug that right into your home fuse box and power your small home just like that.. Natural gas can be a problem and that's why you should maybe consider electric stoves, electric water heaters, etc..

I've got a generator brand new sitting in a box in my garage ready to hook up to my home if need be.. Stored gas as well.. I'm ready for that.. It was a $800 investment at the time.. Hope I never have to use it.. Like I said it a powerful one and still unopened and in the box.. Can run all my appliances for as long as I can pump gas into it..

The reason you should move more inland is because you are putting your life at risk being on the coastline. Melbourne is very close to the coastline. My college buddy lived in Homestead FL when Hurricane Andrew was approaching. He said he was going to ride it out. All our friends insisted that he evacuate but he didn't want to. We were pleading with him for several hours but he felt he could hunker down. I finally told him that I was coming down there and forcibly putting him and his family in my truck. They eventually came up to Orlando. Long story short, their entire neighborhood was destroyed. Many people died from Andrew. Much more than was ever reported (a lot of undocumented people there). Several people on his street... dead. This is not an earthquake or tornado where you have little notice. You know this beast is headed your way. I see no excuse for staying in harms way. Why take the risk? This hurricane is already the fastest on record. Good luck hoping that your hurricane certified windows will hold. They are not rated for winds this high. We are seeing an unprecedented hurricane and it's headed your way.

I said a year ago that this was going to be a record year for hurricanes. This is just the beginning. I expect several more significant storms this season. I'm afraid that this one is going to take a lot of lives.

Andrew was no joke. I think it's still one of the most underrated hurricanes in history. That hurricane killed a lot of people and destroyed a lot of South Florida but I think they didn't report the actual numbers of lives lost nor damage. I was dating a beautiful girl that lived in Kendall at the time. Her apartment had some windows break too. She evac'ed to my place in Los Angeles like the week before. We had just had a huge earthquake hit LA a few weeks before Andrew. I use to live on the beach in Marina Del Rey and I was nervous as shit that we were going to get a tsunami. I really doubt most people in Puerto Rico can afford a generator. I have a hard time throwing nearly $1k at something that I hope I never need to use, but if I knew I was going to be without power for months, I'd have one in a heartbeat. Regardless, I just don't see most Puerto Rican being able to do that.

Poor planning leads to massive suffering on any level, poor, rich and even in Government....

You can buy a used electric generator in Puerto Rico for cheaper then $200 I'm sure.. If you own a home or rent one you should have $200 especially if you are aware that you are hurricane prone and likely to have power outages..

I don't have alot of sympathy for poor planners.. Sorry... Wish them the best though..
