I live in rural north Alabama. Shit like this just doesn't happen in my area. I tend to think that it has a lot to do with a shooters chances of survival. One gunshot in a room with 20 people in it and you have 30 guns pointed back at you. You may kill one of us but the rest of us in the room will return fire. There will not be 20 casualties. I conceal carry a 9mm and a smaller backup (380 usually) at all times, even to church on Sunday mornings with at least 1 long gun in every vehicle that I own. Most of the men and some women around here are armed like me at all times and we don't have bullshit like this from anyone, be it Muslims, thugs, crazy ass white people or aliens. You start shit with my wife and she will shoot you. Guns are never the problem in this situation because if there had been a few of us so called rednecks in that room today, there would have been no manhunt because the bodies would have been laying there. If your group is known to be armed with guns and testicular fortitude, people like this will go find somewhere else to kill people. I apologize for the long rant but it amazes me how people continue to find fault with the guns instead of the crazy people operating the guns.

UPDATE: #SanBernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan identified the two deceased shooting suspects as 28-year-old male Syed Farook and 27-year-old female Tashfeen Malik, who were in some kind of relationship.

"We are comfortable that the two shooters who went into the building are two shooters who are deceased," Burguan said.

What is terrorism?

All definitions aside it is clear that it is often being reserved for those instances where large, possibly state backed, groups conducted an organized, coordinated attack.

Even if the guy was a radical fundamentalist with ties to organizations, if he just acted out because his boss fukked his sister's friend or some shit, without orders for an official attack from said groups, then it will likely be tough to label it "terrorism."

Just because you or someone else is terrified because someone is causing terror won't make it terrorism in that "official" sense.

This is why you won't be able to have both workplace violence and terrorism. If there is an actual attack of terrorism, and it occurs in a workplace, sure you'll have violence in a workplace, but you won't have workplace violence.

The closest we have here is when a couple of methheads decide to kill a couple of other methheads. Very few murders in my county, probably less than one per month on average and usually drug related so not a lot of innocent people being killed. I can't remember the last time a store or bank was robbed in this area. I don't think we are unusually paranoid but most of us country boys were carrying before we were actually of legal age. It's just a way of life around here. My son is 8 years old and he has his own shotgun. We teach him how, when and where to use it SAFELY. Once he's old enough and proves mature enough to have a hand gun, it will be his choice to carry or not. My 9mm is used mostly for killing coyotes, stray dogs and other enemies of my peaceful farm (much easier to carry while working than a 12 ga shotgun). We do not intend nor desire to shoot another human being but I sleep better knowing that my family taught me at an early age how to defend myself, my farm and my family from anything that may mean us harm.

(Current as of 11/30/2015)

Murders: 4 (3 separate incidents)
2 were killed in a meth deal gone bad at a private residence.
1 was killed by his fellow methhead friends so they could sell what little stuff he had to buy more meth, once again at a private residence.
1 was fairly recent and there is not a conclusive set of details so I will wait before I label this one drug related.

Armed robbery: ZERO for all of 2015

KVB.... those that choose to radicalize have standing orders to commit homicidal acts from those said groups you infer, nothing need be specific for the lone wolves or their accomplices to perpetrate what those groups themselves would consider terrorism. They care not if it's at the workplace or the local stadium, those semantics/logistics mean nothing (nor if they gave the direct order); as long as a component involves an overall sympathy for the religious cause/mandate.

Indeed, investigating authorities have made it clear they don't consider "workplace violence" and "terrorism" to always be (by definition) mutually exclusive; it's one of the reasons both concepts are still in play.

Many reasonable people can put forth the notion that Fort Hood, say, was both... regardless if Obama and others refused to label it as such or not.
