University of Iowa Police have arrested a man accused of throwing tomatoes at Donald Trump at a rally in Iowa City on Tuesday night.

In a news release, officials said Andrew Joseph Alemao, 28, was observed throwing two tomatoes at Trump, the real estate mogul and front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Alemao has been charged with disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $625 or 30 days in prison. He is currently being held in the Johnson County Jail.

He was taken into custody by the Secret Service and the UIPD after throwing the tomatoes, the release said.

Trump was in Iowa City less than a week before the Iowa caucuses. He drew more than 1,000 people to his rally in the UI Field House, including a number of protesters who repeatedly interrupted the event.

Coming from someone who apparently thinks they know more about the effect of CO2 on climate than 90%+ of international climate scientists, it's rather ironic that you would tell someone else that they think they are always right. Some people take the advice of the vast majority of experts in the field rather than politicians and news pundits.

I didn't say 97%. There are multiple surveys that suggest a consensus at or around 90%. Reading comprehension, please.

If the consensus was really only 81%, would it make you feel better? Would it make you right? There is no denying that it is the overwhelming consensus.

nothing will convince many of you about this serious problem, the scientific evidence doesn't matter, the conclusions made by numerous scientific agencies including nasa and others doesn't matter. but some of even the R are singing a different tune, I believe I recently read that 57% of R now accept the science.

what I wonder if it gets so bad that island nations are under water, and florida and maybe even NYC are under water, I wonder then if you might say hmmm maybe something to this thing. but if you investigate you will find so much unbelievable proof it is almost ridiculous.

I still have hope that our technology and our ability to adapt will win over, but if not our kids and grandkids are going to have some serious problems.

China is a socialist country still. So is Canada. The problem is when you give government too much responsibility, some countries take it too far. Balance, like most things in life, is the best way to go.

I do believe government plays a role in our lives. A limited one. Protect the people and that includes the basic health care services, help the needy and help create an environment for people to live a good life. All people, not just those with lots of money. Government should be a part time gig.

Open your eyes, it's real but for the next 100 years it's 1.5 degrees according to the latest U.N. report, with negligible effects. There is no near and present danger. All you do is scare people into giving up their individual rights so the government has more power, and you keep those in developing countries poor since they can't build industry.

Even worse, you export industries here because they can't afford the regulation, and move to poor countries that don't care about the environment. Then you get MORE pollution overall. Regulations have consequences, it's better to keep polluting industries in the U.S. with regulations they can afford than send them to countries where they are free to pollute as much as they want.

Canada has socialist political parties, and some socialist policies like single payer healthcare (which by the way is shitty, many really ill people on waiting lists come to the U.S. to get treatment and pay cash) but the economy is capitalist. they don't redistribute wealth to make sure there's equality.

And FYI I hate the inequality of capitalism right now in the U.S., however the current system grows the pie overall even for those on the lowest end of the economic food chain. Socialism shrinks the pie, but keeps everyone equally poor. I'm referring to hardcore socialism where governments set prices and wages to keep things "fair". Life isn't fair which is why it doesn't work.

Anyway my 2 cents, just scares me seeing a proclaimed socialist that spent his honeymoon in the old Communist Soviet Union having such a large following. It' be nice if he beat out Hitlery, and there was no Trump but right now it's all FUBAR. I know a lot of people like Trump, I want to but he's too much of a clown, and by that he contradicts himself all the time and makes no sense. not the guy I want to give control of nuclear weapons lol.

agree and I knew you were referring to the hardcore socialist governments. The Canadian health care system works pretty well despite the negative criticism. If you are really sick, you will get treated. If it can wait, sometimes you will wait. Its not perfect but its inexpensive.

Trump isn't perfect by no means. He's not a smooth politician like the others. That's his appeal at the same time. He has gotten much better and looks presidential in the debates and rallies. He seems more real to me than the typical politician who is about as phony as one can be. I guess the choice comes down to whether you wanna elect the same old politician who tells you nicely all the promises you wanna hear and then proceeds to break them all once elected OR try someone different, like a successful billionaire deal maker.
