#109Gamble on the Kings part... but if Justin Williams returns to 05-06 and 06-07 form, the Kings win this trade.
But I feel like we could have received more than a gamble for one of our core young players.Comment -

#110After calming down and reading up on Justin Williams, this may not have been a bad trade for the Kings after all.Comment -

#112I'm a Canes fan and I loved Cole when he played on the Championship team in 2006. But he is not the same player after busting his neck and i don't really get why they'd give up Williams for Cole. Williams is a better player. His main issue is staying healthy and that might be the reason why they gave up on him, but to be honest i'm not sure about this one. Williams, when healthy, is the best player in this deal.Comment -

#113I really like what the Bruins did with adding Recchi and Montador, both will provide depth, and add some more grit to this team.Comment -

Mostly freak injuries. If healthy he is scoring 60+ points, the Kings really didn't lose on the trade.
I'll reserve judgment and at least give the guy a chance.Comment -

#118Originally posted by VegasDaveCarolina GM seemed upset in interview... he was just saying the Hurricanes need to make the playoffs this year, and if Williams weren't out they don't make this trade. They made it because they need someone in the lineup now.Comment -

But they say Staal liked playing with Cole a lot and he was a great locker room guy, so while it may have been a kneejerk reaction I can somewhat understand it.Comment -

#121Originally posted by VegasDaveAgreed. Unless the one piece is the one to put you over the top to be a cup contender (like you could argue for Calgary), it is not smart.

#123Originally posted by tullamoreCole is also a UFA after this season I believe, move my have been made to free up cap space in the offseason.
That's REALLY a head scratcher then. You had a great player at only a 3.5 cap hit for the next 2 years, traded for a solid young player with a 2.9 cap hit for the next 2 years, and then you trade him for a rental player?
Strange.Comment -
