Vick did not spend ANY jail time for animal cruelty/killing dogs.


He was convicted of the FEDERAL FELONY crime of funding an interstate gambling ring and spent time in FEDERAL prison according to the sentencing guidelines just like everyone else convicted of same - no more, no less. The Federal criminal system is very black and white.

Animal cruelty is a lowly misdemeanor state charge that he likely would have gotten a small fine and/or probation at worst if prosecuted solely for that offense.


This Vick sh1t is getting ridiculous already. He's a bad guy (or was) and a below average QB...period.

Dude, Joe Shabadoo, take a chill pill. I was among those calling for a lifetime ban when Vick left the league. I was among the Eagles fans disgusted when our team picked him up. I didn't think the mindset of greed and cruelty it takes to be running that enterprise when you don't need the money could be redeemed. The one thing that had me a little hopeful was Tony Dungy's counseling and endorsement. Since then, Vick's attitude has changed visibly from what it was in Atlanta. You can see it in his eyes. I frequently hear about Vick being active helping out in the community. He has spoken out actively against the gangster/criminal "culture" and forsaken the idea of "street cred". Whatever happened in the nightclub incident, nobody can say, but he was cleared of involvement. Vick has proven me wrong, and with his improved accuracy and commitment to winning, he might prove everyone who doubts he can be a superstar wrong too. The problem isn't that Vick has been given a second chance, the problem is that in our society those who have made mistakes and truly reformed aren't given second chances often enough. As for Stallworth and Big Ben, Stallworth made a huge mistake, but it was still a mistake and the consequences were up to the judge and jury. Big Ben had a cover up ready to go and no reason for being in some backwater bar except to find someone to rape. Roethlisberger is scum in my book and got off too light. Like you keep saying though, that's got jack to do with Vick.

Dogs are solely a genus made through their bond with our species. We don't slaughter them for food. And before you try and go into a cool diatribe about other cultures eating dogs for food, remember that these are highly antiquated practices that are now incongruent with a large sentiment in Asian countries with the populace largely adopting dogs as family pets now. Trust me, I know; three of my college buddies have all spent 18-months plus teaching in Korea and northern China.

Dogs are essentially the only species, which I was surprised to learn after looking at similar studies with chimpanzees and bonobos, that understand what our species' gaze represents -- what our eyes mean in terms of expression..

He's a football player, that's all that matters. Whatever his personal issues are, they are unrelated to what he does professionally. As far as I am concerned Michael Vick is an excellent athlete and I hope that his personal issues will not remove him from reaching his potential in his career.
