Not sure if last year was a down year or what, but winner only hit 60%. Contest also pays out down to 40th place, and I believe 40th last year was around 54%. Hopefully it's similar this year and I can make some serious noise in it

Yup you're still on it! I haven't sent out anything since end of July, probably won't have anything to send out til we get closer to Week 1

Yup you're still on it! I haven't sent out anything since end of July, probably won't have anything to send out til we get closer to Week 1

that is killer. Im in ohio, do you(or anyone else) know if it is possible for me to enter a similar contest?

Id think no but I had to ask, i want in on that.

Kroy sent you an email about getting on that mailing list. Im new to the site as of the end of last year. I barely broke even last year and am hoping to follow you this year in hopes of a more profitable season. My handicapping skills suck so I hope you want mind me tailing some of your picks.

Regarding Leroy's contest, I was intrigued and did a search and saw that Vegas Insider said the following about 2008's contest:

"Andy Ducay, aka Dr. Odds, won last year’s Leroy’s Pro Football Challenge by besting 281 competitors with a stout 67 percent winning record to pocket $30,000."

I doubt the winner would have less than 65% in any year, especailly when plays can be made up until 9pm Sat night compared to the 12pm Fri deadline of the Hilton contest.

Good luck in the contest though.

Just got signed up for it a couple days ago. I also recommend sharky, I met with him and authorized him as my proxy, overall a very quick and easy experience and I trust the guy 100%. If you want in you've got to make it to vegas and sign up in person before the start of the season and have sharky there to authorize him, whole process won't take more than 15 min though. Good luck if you join!

I was 6-1 ATS in 2008 in the playoffs... 2009 was a failure because I wasn't nearly selective enough. I assure you I'll be correcting this problem this season

Thanks man, next summer I'll probably do them all a bit later since so many variables have changed already. That's what's tricky with futures, but provides some insight about each team at least!

A few early Week 1 leans:

Saints -4
ATL/PIT UNDER 38
SF -2.5
GB/PHI OVER 44.5

Not plays yet in case of injuries/factors arising that may change my mind, but so far these look like the best bets on the board to me. Probably will add a couple before Week 1, may take away one or two of these as well, just wanted to give an early indication of what's looking good. Nothing is official til I post it all with write ups, September 9 couldn't come fast enough!

I like NO in this spot. Superbowl SU and ATS winners in the last few years did very well on the first game of the following year.

Plus I think the Saints' pass offense will have a much better game this round against the Vikings, should put a lot of points on the board and I doubt the Vikings can match.

It's very rare I find a preseason pick that I like, but this one just has too much value to ignore. I'm going to go ahead and get an early start to my season with a play tonight, please keep in mind that I've never played a preseason game before so this may not go as well as regular season plays do. Nonetheless, I've got to go with this one, here's what I like tonight:

Colts/Packers OVER 23 First Half

We'll start with playing time for starters. With no major changes at head coach since last preseason, I assume that I can use Week 3 of last preseason as an indication of what to expect as far as playing time goes. Well, in 2009, Aaron Rodgers played up until halftime, even coming out for a final touchdown drive despite his team leading by 21 points at the time. Even if the Packers found themselves up 21-0 near halftime in this game, I feel pretty confident we'd be seeing him out there with a chance to lead a drive for our over. However, I doubt we see this, as Peyton Manning also played the entire first half last season in the Colts' Week 3 preseason game. Given that the starters should be playing all game, I feel great from that angle. The reason I feel great about that - both Quarterbacks are leading elite offensive units. The Packers lit up the scoreboard last preseason, and are following suit this year as they've been nearly unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball, with Rodgers leading the first string offense to four touchdowns in about two quarters of action. The Colts have been flying high too, in very limited playing time Manning has led the Colts to 24 points so far this preseason. Although each team has been playing pretty weak competition, even against the better defenses they'll be seeing tonight they should be able to get at least 24 points on the board before halftime rolls around. I'm not entirely sold on the Packers' pass defense yet anyways, as last season their strong numbers could be attributed to the very weak schedule they played. The forecast for tonight's game is clear skies and light wind, you couldn't ask for better scoring conditions. I'm expecting in the neighborhood of 37 points by halftime, it should be a fun game to watch!
