#36No, actually it'd probably go to Sanchez or a defensive player like Revis. Find an MVP with numbers like that. Good luck.Comment -

#37Originally posted by Goat Milknever said he'll win it, just will put him in the discussion. Just like Lebron was 99 percent th eMVP this year but Kobe was still in the discussion as was Dwight Durant and Wade
To be in the MVP discussion, there must be MVP numbers.
Last season's #1 RB, Chris Johnson, had 2006 yards rushing with 16 TDs and was barely in the discussion for MVP.
The next best RB was Adrian Peterson who had 1383 yards rushing with 18 TDs on a top team and was not seriously considered in the MVP race. If Peterson couldn't get into the discussion with those kind of numbers on one of the elite NFL teams for last season, how is LT going to do it with even less production? In fact, Favre & Jared Allen got more MVP attention than Peterson, and deservedly so.
Also, no RBs got a single vote in last year's MVP race. Apparently CJs 2,000 yards rushing isn't that great anymore.
BTW, take any NBA analogy over to the NBA forum, it's a completely different sport. You might as well be talking tiddly winks.Comment -

#39Why would he get MVP consideration when his team sucked? That's why I'm telling you stats don't matter as much as you think. It's about putting up very good stats but the team record is far more important.Originally posted by slacker00

We'll see how it goes down. Obviously you can see LT is my favorite player ever to play the game, but realistically I think Ray Rice or Aaron Rodgers will get the award.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#43I wouldn't doubt it. CJ is still improving, game by game. Consider the Titans started 0-6 and still almost made the playoffs by running the table. The Titans are a team on the upswing with the hotted RB in the league entering his prime.Originally posted by spal2811chris johnson will hit 2000 yards again
I don't think a RB wins MVP this year, but if one does it'll be CJ. If CJ gets to 2k again, I don't know how he doesn't get it. I suppose Adrian Peterson has an outside shot, but he's gotta put up 2k and 30 TDs to do it.Comment -

I guess he did win the Sporting News POY award last year, as well as the 2006 Miller Lite POY award.
But I think we're all talking about the big one, the AP MVP, which Brees has never won.Comment -

#53I really like Aaron Rodgers to win it. Their offensive line should be improved, so he won't get sacked all the time and I like the teams chances to finish in the top 2 in the NFC.
With running backs Ray Rice has the best chance, but Frank Gore will be a strong sleeper. The Niners plan on running the ball more this season, and if he plays well and stays healthy (which is a big if) he will finish in the top 2 in rushing in the league. His team should be better next year and they have one of the easiest shedules in the NFL so getting a high seed is possible.Comment -

#56definitely disagree here... virtually impossible from a physical standpoint in the NFL... RBs can't haul year after year... #57Perhaps the guy in my avatar?Who will get MVP in 10-11 season. Let's see if we have any sharps here.
I'm curious though, I looked at the MVP list, and I noticed that for the past two decades, either the position of QB or RB usually wins the MVP. I wonder why the exclusive focus on these two offensive positions in the past two decades?
I would love to see a defensive position, or if we get another offensive position, then something other than a QB or RB, like maybe a TE or WR.

#58Well, the guy has to be a miracleman in a season to be the MOST VALUABLE player in a position other than QB or RB.
First of all, because offensive lines work as a team, and defense works as a team. A WR shares the credit for passes received with his team's QB, which also throws passes to other WR's (and TE, and RB).
RB's carry the ball. Alone. The whole team working for him to get past an entire defense. There's nothing more individual (hence relevant, or perhaps VALUABLE) than that.
I agree, though, it would be interesting to weigh all player's contributions considering their positions, but there're best defensive player awards for that. I think, though, that if a kicker misses only 1 50yd- Field Goal in an entire season, being the highest scorer of his team, winning 4 games with a < 3 point handicap, one of them overtime, blah blah... he's hands down MVP

However, Gary Anderson, in 1998, had a perfect kicking season, making 35 out of 35 field goals, 59 out of 59 extra point attempts, and recording a single season record for most points scored without a touchdown (164), and still did not get the MVP for that year. So, it does seem very difficult for anyone other than a QB or RB to win the MVP.

#66Favre had maybe his best statistical year last year and easily good enough numbers for MVP. I expect his familiarity with the team and the peaking experience of the young supporting cast going into year #2 of the Minnesota experiment will only bolster his stats. #69But they drafted a nice RB in Ryan Mathews, who should be able to produce well for them. LT style of play was just not fitting very well with Norv's pass-happy style of offense, and now Rivers is the main leader of this team, since he fits very well within Norv's system. They also picked up Nathan Vasher, a good enough CB, so it isn't all that bad for San Diego.Rivers will have no chance to win. He lost a dynamic RB, the leader and heart and sole of that team. Cromartie was an essential piece of what they did on D. Meriman seems washed up. The Chargers will win that divison probably but they will fall apart in the first round of the playoffs.
I think that Rivers has a good chance of producing excellent numbers for this team, and could very well be in the discussion for MVP.

#70I agree he will be in the discussion but he will not win because their offensive line still needs some work and Vasher cannot be compared to cromartie imo. Although some people might not think so, when you ask the players in the league about LT they stil say he is an elite back..
On the field, the defense has played against this guy for so long that they had to respect LT's game. You'd be a fool not to. He really opened up a lot of the passing game for Rivers last year despite what the stats show.
SD will have anotehr solid season only they will fall apart in the first round of the playoffs. That "dynasty" is slowly coming to an end, and if nothing happens this year, Gates will leave and that team will fall apart.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment
