big cal fan but they haven't been covering and they are laying 25 to alcorn state today
as background, cal was semi-breakout team last year. decent returning nucleus and they had two super-frosh.... did ok. made march madness for 1st time in long time (i think)..... had probably 6 or 7 good players.
they had good news and bad news in off-season. ivan rabb stayed and jordan matthews (3 point ace) transferred to gonzaga.
so coming into this season they had rabb, jabari bird (former top 10 recruit, 3 point ace), some good big men and incoming top 15 recruit PG charlie Moore.
bird hasn't played yet due to back spasms (????). one of their 2 big men is out. moore is taking on huge role for freshman pg.
so it's mostly rabb and moore. big man and pg.. doesn't seem like a recipe to blow teams out. 3 point shooting is not good.
if bird plays tonight, it'd be his first game. so probably some rust............ in a few games, i wonder if bird thinks of taking a medical redshirt anyway.
