Eurobaske Lithuania 2011

Almost a week before Eurobasket 2011 and i will make some early picks,

I believe that Italian squad has potential this year. They have an experienced head coach and the NBAers can push the others to achieve something really good! On the other hand, Turkish national team will fight for the 3rd place of Group A and this "HEAD to HEAD" will be really interesting, later at Group E.
I bet on Italy to reach further than Turkey this year.

France is among the favourites once again, but nobody really believes that this team can take the crown. They are kind of losers, thinking of recent tournaments' performances, but there is always hope to do something special. I guess they are ready to challenge big teams like Spain, Lithuania and Serbia and keep it close till the end, even if they cannot taste the success. If you take a look at your sportsbook you might find this "Head to Head" option. France is better than the Germans and i have no doubt, that they will reach late stages of this tournament. Of course Dirk "champion" Nowitzki is a huge wall to overcome, but i cannot see it happens... you know what i am talking about.

Bosnia managed somehow to stay close even if Teletovic was 0 of 9 three pointers... what to say.
Lithuania was leading by 10 at the half, but they scored 5 points at the third period... so they didn't cover.

Yesterday France allowed 78 points, while Latvia was hitting 11 of 21 from downtown. This will not happen again for Israel, a team that lost by 27 and allowed 91 points. The French is a decent team and they can demolish their opponents, if they are focused and not feel like playgrounding. In my eyes, this is the pick of the day.

After the break, Greece and FYROM are back in action. Greece is perfect with 2 wins against Bosnia and Finland, while FYROM lost its first against Montenegro at a dramatic game and won its second against Croatia.
Everyone's expecting Greece to utilize inside game with Bourousis and Koufos. This is the more likely to happen as their neighbours haven't response for this one. Pero Antic, Todor Gechevski and Predrag Samardziski will defend Greek Big Men. These three are averaging almost 30 points per game while grabbing 18 rebounds p/g. On the other hand Bourousis, Fotsis and Koufos will recieve many balls tonight and will try to reach or overpass the combined 33 points they averaging at the 2 first games.The rebounds' average is 18 (the same as FYROM).

This is a key factor at Greece's fate at this tournament in my opinion. It is not the team, it used to be recently, as fresh men with lower potential-talent joined it. At tonight's game i expect a tought battle, but the great rotation of Ilias Zouros can keep his team refreshed and "save" energy for the last period.
FYROM has McCalebb, a great scorer, but that's all. McCalebb Ilievski, Antic. Those 3 cannot win Greek team. Plus the fact that Greece find its rythm while playing together. It is a roster that's improving game by game. Tonight they will drop FYROM down.

They had no answer for MacCaleb who scored 27points and the next guy scored 8! They did not take advantage of their big men either and took 3pointers when they had an off night instead of working the ball inside since their opponent's big men were in foul trouble.
Anyway their weakness at point guard was obvious and the absence of key veteran players from the team has hurt them badly.
Also what about Finland beating Bosnia by 28?! Strange day.
