That was horrible basketball by Pierce. He waited too long and then threw up a horrible shot. He should have drove to the hole looking for the foul with enough time to get another possession if he missed. Wait till 5 secs lets and then drive. If you miss, you can foul and get one more shot to tie if they miss one of the two freethrows. Pierce just lost track of time and panicked.

In theory yes, but if you're just going to hold the ball for 15 of the 18 seconds and then force up a contested fade-away shot without even running a play or passing the ball, it's a fail on your part.

My point was that it was a horrible shot by Pierce after he waited too long and panicked. However, you are right about the fouling. When I wrote that I was thinking they were down one point for some reason. That part was just an error on my part so I apologize for that part of my comment. However, that does not change the fact that it wad a bad and panicked shot by Pierce....
