Leans for Tuesday 1/19/09 CK vs. hoockeytown11 Challenge
Okay, My bad I have the wrong date for the thread title, but you guys will find it anyway! This is the 20th.

Oh well it's time for a good old fashioned open board for today's action. i myself have a few plays for the challenge, but I am looking forward to having a big day as today is the Obama inauguration. At any rate, let's get it crackin!

I like my chances taking the Chicago Bulls against the reeling Atlanta Hawks playing their back end of a back to back on the road in the back end. The Hawks won on a squeaker against the Raptors yesterday by 4 failing to cover the spread. The Bulls failed to cover against the Knicks in a nailbiter yesterday, which I am sure has left them in a foul mood. I will back the Bulls as they are 4-1 straight up and against the Hawks at home and are also avenging a home loss to the Hawks earlier this season. I'll take the chalk in this latest installment of Toro Week!

    Bulls-2.5

San Antonio is not as good on their rotations these days and the Pacers are hungry for a win. The lightswill be shot out in this one as the Spurs are surrendering 99 points in thir last 5 games on average, and the Pacers are giving up a whopping 114.2 points per game on average on the defensive end. Indiana always goes over the total on the road. What's gonna change that now?

    Indiana/San Antonio over 210

The Tennessee Vols are'nt as good as in years' past, and that won't bode well for them as they were better in the past and still couldn't put together a good road record against the Commodores of Vanderbilt. Vandy has no business getting points at home in this one. I'm gonna ride the home dog in this matchup. Tennessee is 1-4 straight up and 3-2 ats in these matchups. With the Commos getting points this one is one I can't resist especially with Vandy coming off a road loss to Miss State in their last game. Tennesse has given up an average of 85.4 points per game on average in their last 5 games and Vandy 57.2. Got to go with the home dog on that alone.

    Vandy+1

hockeytown11 counters wth the following plays for the challenge

    Bulls-2.5
    San Antonio/Indiana under 210
    Penn State-3 (good call)
    Boston College+2.5
    Illinois-7

      Liking the Indy/SAS over.

Indy are something like 17-4-1 for the o/u this season. And the last 7 out of 10 games or so between the two have gone over!

      Lets get the books tomorrow!

i like the bulls small.. other opinions:denver will cover the 9 and utah wont cover the 9... utah goes on the road to play houston and then comes back home to play cleve.. they wont cover their home game before the home game vs. lebron.. like the vandy pick cause i used to live in nashville and they always get up to play tenn.. we should wait to play it and see where the public is though cause that could change my mind.... check this thread between 5:30 and 6 for my updated info and better picks.. these are all opinions and nothing more.. where ya at dex???

and the laker guranteeeeeeeeeee does hit+my halftime pick... i rarely will ever guarantee a win by my fav. team..

              CK,
I didn't see this mentioned but today is actually the 20th and not the 19th(again) so you may want to change your title as to not confuse the peeps around here...unless we're repeating tomorrows bets but with the same results. That would be even sweeter...

I like your Pacers/Spurs over play CK, I think we got lucky today with the Under in the Pacers game, they were on track to smash it until an out of the ordinary 3rd quarter killed it.
Im also going to play Indiana +7.5 and Kings/Nuggets Under 217

                      Pacers +7.5, over 210
I think the Pacers are getting too many points here. With the way they've been shooting the ball lately, I can easily see them covering this spread. Even though both teams are on a back-to-back, Indiana is as tough as nails, managing to cover some unlikely spreads during their last road trip. The Spurs on the other hand are playing their fourth game in five nights, are coming home from a 3-game road trip, and are playing a back-to back. Wow wow wow! Their legs will be feeling like rubber by the end of the game. The young run-and-gun Pacers will run indeed set the pace tonight.

                      Other games I'm liking
                      Minnesota +9.5
                      Bulls -3

There are a few plays I like today.

                              Chicago Bulls -2.5
The Bulls are getting better with each game and since the return of Hinrich and Deng, the young Bulls with some added experience are matching teams very closely and even beat the Cavs last week. Rose is improving with each game and making PG his own position, while Noah & Thomas have stepped up to the plate recently. The Hawks are 8-12 SU on the road this season, while their ATS is just as impressive at a dismal 2-7 in their last 9 games. Horford is out for the Hawks and their sweating on a couple of other day-to-day injuries.

The Chicago bench is much deeper than that of the Hawks and their youth spirits are heading upwards, while the Hawks have been heading in the opposite direction in recent times.

                              Indiana Pacers +7.5
No idea why the Pacers have been given so many points here. The Spurs are back home after a long road trip and they will be playing their 4th game in 5 days tomorrow. The Spurs will be tired and I doubt they will be looking the blowout the Pacers in front of their home crowd after a long trip. The Spurs have only covered one of their past five games and 1-6 ATS in their past 7 home games, while Indiana have covered 6 of their last 7 games.

The Pacers have had a heap of really close games this year, I defintely see them keep this close against the Spurs who will be content with just a win. Might look at the over, just need to crunch some other numbers. Although, the Spurs coach seems very pissed off with their defense over the past few games, something they might work on, might bring down the total.

Can't wait for Obama Inauguration! Here's a nice little present for you all...

the spurs are a very poor back to back team, but they also will be playing their 4th game in 5 nights. on top of that, this will be their first home game after a mini 3 game east coast trip. the pacers run-n-gun style are exactly what the spurs dont want to see in this spot with tired legs. as i type this, the spurs have held on for a hard fought win at charlotte. makes the play even stronger in my opinion. line should be about 8.

                                  -pacers (big)

the jazz will be looking to get back in the win column, and what better place than salt lake. they will be rested and waiting for a wolves team who is off a back to back in la on monday. the jazz are 3-1 ats the last 4 at home to the wolves - winning by an avg margin of 17ppg in those 4 wins. jazz by 20+ in what should be a -12.5 number. (love the 9.5 actual)

                                  -jazz (big)
                                  _________________
the nuggets will be on a btb off a hard fought loss to the rockets, while the kings are well rested for this one. the kings dont match up well with big teams - and the magic proved that last week. the nuggets on the other hand are a smaller, run and gun type team, and this suits the kings well. the proof is also in the numbers as the kings have covered their last 5 games in denver and won 3 of them su. they should be catching about 13 in this spot, and that sets up a nice play on the dog here. (not crazy about the 9.5 actual - but it should float up)

Hot damn! That Bulls line has moved a lot overnight. Bulls opened at -2, was -3.5 at 6AM EST, and is now at -4.5 at 9AM EST. I think we have a winner here, might be enough for a chicken dinner.

I'm loving the spurs at -7, pacers are getting way to many point based on how they are playing as of lately this is a fishy line, im thinking the books are expecting a blowout or something similar to bucks/portland type of game yesterday.

Want to share my only play for today guys:

Sas -7 for $3000. We know that the spurs is coming from a tiresome road trip and an additional of b2b.But i see this line kinda weird giving the pacers +7 on this one which they are also on b2b.The linesmaker must have up to something here.My projected line is spurs -4.5,but it opens at -7,i think they only want most of the bettors to pound the pacers, that they are playing well lately.Smells like a trap for me,Nba lines are kinda weird these past few days. This is gambling so,whether a trap or not i will not fall for that and i'm gonna roll with the spurs to cover this one easily.

The Spurs are poised to blowout the Pacers. Whenever the Pacers show up in Texas they blow them out. I don't see why anyone thinks that that is gonna chage all of a sudden. Over the last 4 times these teams have met in Texas the average spread for the Spurs has been 11.5 and the average margin of victory is 13.75. The line going down to 6.5 is a gift. Both teams are on equal amounts of rest. The Pacers for their part are surrendering alarming amounts of points, and it is still hard to believe that they "held" the Hornets to 103 points. Who's gonna stop Tim Duncan from getting ANY shot that he wants? Rasho Nesterovich? Jeff Foster? Give me a break. All of the Spurs smalls are championship grade smalls, and the Pacers, well they have Jarret Jackass and T.J. Ford, turnover specialists. The Pacers are a sub .500 team. We already know how sub .500 teams respond to losing close games. The Spurs are used to playing close games so it doesn't faze them one way or the other. They've been there before. They have the rings. The 6.5 is a gift to Spurs backers. When the smoke clears, Indiana will be on their backs.

i dont know cknocker - i hear ya with the historical, but the spurs are in their 4th in 5 nights, and are brutal btb at 2-7 ats. now they'll have to run up and down the court (in what you also feel will be a shootout) for 48 minutes. the line also went back up in most spots to 7.5.

Under on Atl/Chi... I cant see this one going over.. Chicago plays better defense at home than on road.. if Atlanta cant score more than 87 and only gave up 84 to a high scoring Toronto team i dont see how in the world this one will go over 201.5

Also on the Minnesota game at 1st glance Minnesota seems like a good pick as they are one of the hottest teams in the league but Utah needs a win here with games at houston and home to cleveland so im thinking utah will win the game for sure but not sure about 9.5 points

                                                Your thoughts?

I think tht you have the right idea on that Bulls/Hawks game. Marvin Williams being out will hurt Atlant's production. Throw in the back end facotr and you have the makings of a nice under play. The only thing that worries me abit aout that is maybe Atlanta's rotations aren't as crisp on back end games as they are 4-1 for the over in their last 5 back ends and Chicago is 3 out of 5 for the over in their back ends, however the Bulls are 2-1 for the under over their last 3 back end games. Good luck to you on that play.

As far as Utah is concerned, yes! I think that the T-Puppies will have great production, but they are facing a hungry Jazz squad that is also VERY well rested and comng off of a loss to Dallas. I like the Jazz side in this one. Utah usually blows them out at home!

I don't think the Granger-lead Pacers get enough respect from the bookies. I wouldn't be suprised to see some good defense played by the Spurs but can't see a major blowout. Indiana have had a heap of close games this year where they've lost by less than 5. GL with yours but I'm firmly stuck with the Pacers.

I don't know about that one still. It sounds like wishful thinking instead of a solid pick. I could se if the Pacers ad had some sucess against the Spurs on the road in the past, but nothing I have seen indicates that the Pacers will be able to stop what San Antonio is doing offensively, and nothing that the Pacers are doing on offense indicates that they will be able to consistently get good shooting percentage against the Spurs. All of the jumpshots play right into the Spurs hands. They close out on shooters very well.

There are 74% of bettors on the under, so it was bound to happen, but nothing about the Pacers playing the Spurs shows me that this game will go under. I think that with both teams playing the back end of a back to back situation means that they will light up the scoreboard in the 1st half, which will lead to the game going over. As I have said, Duncan has a major advantage over any big that the Pacers can throw at him. No way he doesn't score at least 25 in this one. And that alnoe is whole quarters worth of points production from just one man, let alone Ginobili if he gets hot. Take the over.. you'll feel good afterwards.
