Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Howard Wolfendale passed away last night from complications related to the massive stroke he suffered a few days ago.
My heart goes out to his wife Tammy, his daughter Maggie and the entire Wolfendale family.

You all would have loved Howard. Great guy, and a tremendous horseman. Gonna miss your laugh my friend.

Sorry I am a day late with this but I did speak about it when Saratoga was running last month. Every year when the Saratoga meeting starts it is typically a speed bias track. Yesterday was NO EXCEPTION. ( Note: this will NOT last all meet long.)
Players need to adjust there handicapping for the immediate future. You should review the charts and replays and identify 2 things. The first is to write down comments on the horses that won or ran very well from the speed side of things. These horses will likely be bet down next time out and that short price might very well be vulnerable if no bias exists down the road.
The 2nd list should be for horses that never fired yesterday when they figured to do so. They ran into a speed bias and were compromised. These notes should be updated everyday and in 2-4 weeks, when they run back, you will have info to add to the formthat other players do NOT have access to. That is, bias notes. This will be an enjoyable effort for the meet in that, you will have a solid edge on any player that did NOT take notes and is simply gpoing off what the form shows. That edge is simply "WHY" a horse most likely did what they did last time out.
In the meantime, you will hear excuses like " he needed a race over the track". Bullsh**. He/she could not overcome the speed favoring situation.
Folks, for all intent and purposes, I pretty much stopped looking for future claims in 1991-1992. Sure, I still claimed some but only to replace those I lost. Before that, I had a full library of every race, every horses legs, warmups, pullups, biases etc. A library of info including every replay of every Maryland race.
I was competing against all the other claiming trainers. Just like you are competing against all other bettors. This is an edge !

If you want to see how much fun it is to have information the vast majority of other players do not have, try this. Does it take more work? Of Course ! It might be an extra 5-10 minutes between each race. But most things worth having do.

Jelly , I hear you. I won’t disagree. Can’t remember if I ever formally met Paco or not. Doesn’t really matter.
I always viewed Paco, just my opinion, as a very talented rider but also at times reckless, short tempered, and potentially dangerous. I always thought of him as a rider with an edge to him. I think the problem is that oftentimes that comes with youth. And in horse racing you better grow up fast. I think Paco has struggled with that. Again, Just my opinion.
But, off his last couple of months, to not recognize the moment and instead, go to Saratoga and ride reckless is just not in his or the game’s best interest.
I wish him well, but when you are a grown ass man, you leave that stuff where it belongs which is not anywhere near the game in todays world.

That is very typical of Saratoga. Always seems to be a speed track for the first few cards.

As for turf, do remember that the inner turf course is always at least somewhat speed favoring because of the tight turns while the pother turf surfaces are much more honest with wider turns.

All these little things add up.

Update: Stable Footing Inc. has now submitted bylaws, assigned officers, and all information needed by the State and Federal authorities and government. We are told 2 weeks ( been hearing that for the last month ), but... we are all over it. A bank account has been opened, and with the podcast and word of mouth, we are pleased to say that we will have a seat in front of the Md. Stadium Authority next month to explain the problems as well as provide ideas for a solution.
It seems like this is really gaining steam and support and it is all much needed. I'll keep everyone posted.

I do not know if anyone has paid attention to horses that won on Preakness day at Laurel and their next out success rate. And, off the pace horses that ran even and closed to win next out. Both scenarios would be the back end results from that severe bias that Laurel had that day. I have to assume it has shown that the speed bias was real, but maybe not. Hard to believe it was a coincidence though.
With that said, Napoleon Solo goes today at Monmouth off his Laurel win . This could be a play against situation but someone that has followed it will have to tell me. I have no idea. But keeping records of these things can lead to winners AND losers, that is, favorites that are over bet based on a bias effort. Having that information is like having extra info in the form that only you have.
Just thought I would mention it. Good luck today folks !

also want to mention that iron honor switched back to his left lead around the 1/16th pole .. str pointed out to me and I believe he might be correct that the tire tracks from the gate might have caused it .. certainly didn't help his cause either

I stagger home..... all the firefighters on my fires came home safe..... alas lost 4 on other fires... and another year of celebrating my birthday on a fire.... good grief..... on another note I have a couple of horses training lights out! will post tomorrow! hope the group is doing well! Black Tie Optional Workout Report



Black Tie Optional breezed five furlongs in :59.40 from the gate while on the inside of Truth Or Dare (Quality Road--Gamine) this morning at Del Mar. Your son of Not This Time broke extremely well and accomplished this quick clocking fairly easily. He was professional from the get-go under rider Erick Garcia and accomplished this work all under his own power. As we have previously mentioned, our race target is on August 2nd, which will give him one more breeze in preparation. We would expect this frequent workmate Truth Or Dare to also be in that spot.

Elevated Owner Update

Elevated was in good order this morning following her paddock scratch yesterday, and has been entered for a second go at her debut on Saturday, July 25 in the first race at Saratoga (post time 12:35 p.m ET). Your daughter of Flightline will break from post 7 in a field of 9 with Hall of Famer Bill Mott’s first-call rider Junior Alvarado once again named. We will be back in the coming days with a closer look at the race.

Munny Problem Race Recap



Munny Problem ran a much-improved second with a very rough trip this afternoon in his first start as a gelding and first start turf sprinting.

Your son of Munnings broke slowly, as he typically does, and trailed early on. He worked his way up the inside down the backstretch as he picked off foes. Around the far turn jockey Mychel Sanchez opted to get him outside in the clear, at which point he really began to pick up his stride as they turned for home. Into the stretch Mychel angled him back inside and tried to split, but he had to check out of a tight hole before angling back into the clear and closing well for place honors.

Though he had a bit of a troubled journey, this run was certainly encouraging. It was Munny Problem’s his best effort yet, and he appeared to appreciate the cutback in distance. Additionally, he seemed to be much more focused on the task at hand—which was one of the key reasons why we elected to geld him.

As always, we will see how Munny Problem exits this effort before regrouping with trainer Michael Trombetta and deciding on next steps.
