impressive and congrats .. monmouth has a couple of perfect spots upcoming.. both grade 3's @ 9f (7/18) and 8.5f (8/15) respectively .. hopefully exits that race in good shape

thought you might be interested that Rudy has a first time starter by flightline (only 2nd one I've seen) in baq R5 .. he's not good with that but who knows with this sire .. #2 flight command (5-2) .. I went elsewhere but interested to see how he does

Caldera Sets Track Record!

Caldera won with extreme ease this afternoon at Colonial Downs, barely getting out of a gallop under a super confident ride while lowering the track record to 1:33.27.

Breaking outward a bit at the start, your grey was maneuvered into the perfect spot by jockey Nik Juarez to stalk from third out in the clear. He tugged his way to the front midway around the turn for home with a host of pursuers stacked up behind him, but nobody could match strides with your colt. Never truly asked or shown the whip, Caldera cantered home while seemingly still in first gear, officially scoring by three lengths, but he clearly could have won by many more if asked for any effort.

We’ll admit we would have been surprised by anything less than a win today, but we were extremely pleased to see the professionalism Caldera showed—that felt like the step forward we were looking for, and that effort will certainly justify more ambitious placement moving forward.

As mentioned by trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. on last night’s Caldera will most likely head up to Saratoga now—at least to train—as we contemplate next spots. Saffie does have a string at Colonial, however, so there will be no rush to leave immediately.

For now we’ll savor this win and then start poring over stakes schedules in the coming days.

Hope the chart comes through... not very often you see "wrapped up in the final 16th and rider gave horse a few well done pats with is hands while being wrapped up and plenty of speed to spare while setting a new course record"

you know Wayne is looking down going"I told you he has potential" ! but knowing Wayne Caldera's second race back would have been a stakes race and not this one(not disappointed) but that is how MR Lukas rolled....

Love the work pattern with him . The First time gate workout was outstanding..... 47 and change 2/168 second was 7/77 backs off on the last gate move... setting him up for success... It will be interesting to see what odds he goes off at.

On the dam side (), his mom is Carol Linton Juarez.. She was born and raised on the backside of Pimlico, Bowie and Laurel. She knew horses better than almost everyone having literally grown up in a barn. Her dad, Charlie Linton was the undisputed BEST exercise rider in Md. when it came to galloping horses for decades. He was a premier outrider in Md. for decades as well and truly a folk hero from back in the day. If NOBODY could ride a horse, Charlie could. That's a fact.
Today, Carol is a registered nurse and works in a local hospital. She is so proud as well she should be.

Who says bloodlines only matter in horses ?

Absolution Workout Report



Absolution breezed a half mile in :50 flat this morning while on the outside of Princesa Carolina ’24 ($2.9-million Gun Runner colt who was the third topper at last year's Saratoga sale). Your son of Jack Christopher did this in hand, traveling easier of the two to the wire. Assistant trainer Mike Marlow has still yet to ask this colt to really run, but he is very pleased with where he is at and we can certainly see why.

Elevated breezed four furlongs in :48.77 outside of Christopher Wool, a 2-year-old colt by Into Mischief out of Grade 1 winner Bleecker Street, this morning at Saratoga, displaying a willingness to rate off of that well-bred colt before finishing strongly in the stretch. She continues to train forwardly for Hall of Famer Bill Mott and we wouldn't expect it to be much longer before we start discussing potential debut targets.

Caldera Post-Race Report



Caldera has reportedly bounced out of yesterday’s impressive win in good order. As mentioned previously, with trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. keeping a small string at Colonial, there’s no big rush to ship out of town, but we’ll report back with more if/when he heads to a different location (again, Saratoga would be the most logical next place for him to be stabled).

Your colt earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure for his win—one point higher than his previous top.

We would not necessarily put a ton of stock in that number for a couple of reasons:

• Caldera’s race was the only dirt route on the card yesterday and one of just three dirt races run on the day overall, so it would be very difficult to determine the speed of the surface with any confidence—particularly the part of the track over which no other group of horses ran yesterday other than those in the sixth race. We’ve been frequently checking today to see when the Beyer would be posted, and in fact the number for Caldera’s race was still not out when the rest of the figures for the card were released. This suggests that it’s a figure that the Beyer team struggled with a bit for very valid reasons. When that’s the case, figure makers will often assign a number close to what a horse has earned previously.
• While sometimes the notion that a horse could have run much faster if asked for more is overblown, in this case it’s pretty undeniable that Caldera could have run up the score by many more lengths than he did if jockey Nik Juarez asked him to. That’s not at all a knock on Nik’s ride—he certainly did the right thing to save some horse for next time and couldn’t have ridden Caldera any better.

While speed figures in general are a useful tool, they’re not the end all be all and this number won’t dramatically alter our future plans for Caldera. We’ll be back soon with further discussion of possible next targets.

yeah I'd be looking forward to see him run

an elite sire (Flightline] by an elite sire (Tapit) has only happened twice in the last 50 years in this country .. Danzig (Northern Dancer) and A P Indy (Seattle Slew) and they two of the all time greats .. Tapit is a grandson of A P Indy ..This is something aside from his legendary performances on the track that makes me think he's going to be with the best and maybe even beyond within 3-5 years

I was taught that the feed tub, the horses demeanor as compared to prior races, and training energy all played a role in next steps. But... often times even though it looked like the horse was an easy winner, the physical exertion from within is different. Just because it looks easy, does not mean it actually was for the horse. If there is any doubt, a nw/3 or 2 other than is the safe choice.

I looked at the saratoga stakes schedule and (unless i missed something) there's not a good fit .. maybe they have a 3x other than allowance race but those aren't common .. the monmouth races make more sense but certainly possible there are other options elsewhere

Pertaining to Howard Wolfendale while I have no updates the severity of the situation was high. We all hold our collective breath as the days go by but from what is known, it’s not so good. Apparently it was severe. ❤️
