Solid finale in Hot Springs with a six-furlong allowance sprint. The top choice is No. 7 Edgemont Road. We’re looking to light up the board with a horse that’s vastly improved since adding blinkers two races back. He’ll want the lead in a race that lacks speed. No. 6 American Mandate fits right in with this group and trainer Steve Asmussen is reunited with his go-to jockey Ricardo Santana. No. 11 Marvin had a great workout here on Monday. He seems ready to roll from the outside post.

Gulfstream Race No. 5 (3:13 p.m. ET/12:13 p.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes #9 Awesome Action (6/1 morning line). “Putting on blinkers for new trainer Gilberto Zerpa after a dueling place effort vs. similar should improve this 4-year-old colt’s performance. Bullet work on April 22 seals the deal. Florida journeyman jockey Edgar Zayas returns for this dirt sprint. Wager: Win & Place.”
Tampa Bay Race No. 8 (4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT)
(Tuley noted: Race moved from turf to dirt; #3 Sweetly Maid was scratched, but otherwise sticking with picks) Dave Tuley likes #7 Mahkato (12/1 morning line). There’s plenty of early speed in this mile race on the main dirt track, and while I’m a little worried about #2 Foggy Flight (20/1) stretching out and stealing it, it’s more likely the fast pace sets it up for a closer. My choice is #7 Mahkota, who fits if you toss his last race, and I’ll bet him to Win. I’ll probably also box these two in exotics in case Foggy Flight sticks around at a big price, and I don’t think it’s the worst idea to use both in horizontal wagers as we’ve seen several longshots lighting up the toteboard in Tampa finales.
Gulfstream Race No. 7 (4:17 p.m. ET/1:17 p.m. PT)
Ed Sehon likes #3 Awesome Party (7/2 morning line). “Top trainer Todd Pletcher attracts top rider Irad Ortiz Jr. to take the reins of this underachieving $700,000 son of Curlin. After breaking his maiden at Aqueduct in February, he posted two uninspiring efforts vs. much effort. Pletcher drops him to $12,500 tag in hopes of waking him up – probably parting ways with him. Wager: Win.”
Oaklawn Race No. 8 (5:38 p.m. ET/2:38 p.m. PT)
Duane Colucci likes #7 Strong Flag (9/2 morning line). “This $435,000 Steven Asmussen-trained purchase seems to be a late bloomer, closing fast while wide in her last race, slightly ducking in during the last 100 yards of her quick finish. A solid work on April 26 and Ricardo Santana in the saddle spell victory.”
Oaklawn Race No. 9 (6:09 p.m. ET/3:09 p.m. PT)
John Lauro likes #2 Venetian Harbor (2/1 morning line). “In the Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes, the two best 3-year-old fillies match up. This could be a cold exacta with the #2 Venetian Harbor and #3 Swiss Skydiver. Venetian Harbor has the class advantage and should have the pace advantage, too. Strong Win bet and 2-3 Exacta box.”
Duane Colucci likes #5 Harvey’s Little Goil (12/1 morning line). “Tough spot for this Bill Mott trainee after almost a three-month break, but she has a nice workout tab – including a bullet on April 25 – and breeding that suggests she will easily handle any distance (she’s already won at 1 1/8 miles). Martin Garcia and his 51 wins at the current Oaklawn meet will be in the saddle, and the price is right at 12/1. In exotics, I’ll use #2 Venetian Harbor and #10 British Idiom, a Breeders’ Cup winner, who will be ridden by Javier Castellano returning to the saddle after beating COVID-19.”
Gulfstream Race No. 11 (6:19 p.m. ET/3:19 p.m. PT)
Dave Tuley likes #1 Reiterate (6/1 morning line). This 3-year-old filly has a great shot to wire this field of $20,000 claimers. She’s a sprinter who has showed speed against far better competition and has also showed speed in her only prior turf race. She’s stretching out and should easily grab the early lead from the #1 post and we’re counting on top jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. to be able to get her to set controlled fractions and have enough left to hold off the closers.
