Tonight, I am not going to buy any ML- or PL bets. Nor will I tamper with the over/under bets. In those terms, this first game is to close of a matchup for that kind of carelessness. Instead, I am looking at the SOG stats and the goalie stats from their respective first rounds, as I think that the best plays in a tight G1 is to trust the goalies with a fair amount of saves.. And why not? With Tuuka Rask vs. Carey Price as probable starters, this is also going to be one of the decisive factors in this series.

Bryzgalov back in goal for MIN after being pulled in the COL series. The regular season series saw five goal totals in 4/5. Both teams played OVERs in the first round. CHI finding five or more goals in 5/6 and MIN in 5/7. CHI was one of the best home scoring clubs, averaging nearly 3.5 goals per home game. CHI is also in favor of OVERs when the total is set at 5 with 7/9 hitting that direction.

As for the SOG- and goalie stats, from G1 in this series, Vigneault has to be quite satisfied with his goalie, his defensemen and his other shot blockers. Especially in the 1st period of G1, the Rangers succeeded in keeping the Penguins shooters at a low rate (8 shots on goal) and a total of 36 SOG including OT. Lundqvist made 34 saves.
However, Dan Bylsma can't be satisfied at all; the Rangers didn't produce nearly as many SOG as the Penguins (which is to some comfort, I guess!) but the Rangers were way more effective (3 goals / 27 SOG). Penguins need to focus more on their game and on their large advantage in the PP's. This should produce even more SOG in G2 and maybe even more goals.

This has hit in 4/5 meetings this season, including Game 1. This has been a banker for PIT playoff games in general with 5/6 in the Columbus series also featuring at least two goals. NYR saw this # hit over in 4/7 in their series with PHI. I think it's important for PIT to play with a lead and get off to a better start, so I'm looking for them to come out guns blazing - but New York certainly will take advantage of any sloppiness.

Having been a Pens fan for a long time, this reminds me of every postseason. Inept PP. By game's end, they will have a lot of shots on goal and not enough to show for it.

So you're a Pens fan and a Eagles fan? Please break this down for me if that's the case. As for the Pens PP, believe your quote was from the first period where they had had just one PP at that point and it was a very efficient PP without scoring. I missed much of the second and third periods, but I know they scored on a PP goal in the third and had two other PP opportunities. So even if the two I missed were poor attempts 5-4, they at least had 2-4 solid attempts and converting on one.Comment
