I don't hate the Bucks, Biffer, but I'm not an Urban Meyer fan at all. Great coach, amazing recruiter, but as unscrupulous as they come despite his general-public image speaking to the contrary.

Dantonio's done amazing things at MSU, given the volatility of the program when he took over. His record speaks for itself, and relatively speaking, is nothing short of amazing. With that being said, I'm not fully convinced MSU is ready for prime time Saturday night. We'll see. I just hope they don't get blown out and go to the Rose Bowl even if they lose. Spartan fans have been waiting way too long for a return trip to Pasadena. I'd love to see MSU-Stanford, personally.

Third time was the charm I guess after Saban left. Bobby Williams and John L. Smith days were so fukking painful..... I just hope MSU steps up after this year and gives Dantonio the payday he deserves so he don't walk out on them too like Saban (although Saban was more than just $)

Perfect conditions inside that dome. I think it's an over kind of weekend MSU/OSU; Mizzou/AU; Stanford/ASU; Duke/FSU all with a real good chance to go over. Weather won't be a problem in any of these games, maybe a little chilly for the ACC champ game but really good football weather for all 4 games.

wow, switching to ncaa hoops for a second i was real curious to see where that byu/umass total was gonna open. 174.5, dont see them that high real often. kenpom actually has it higher but id worry that byu playing east coast and pretty early they might be sluggish early but that should be a fun gm to watch.. i played umass-3

Don't sell Cook short on running. He was actually considered more of a "mobile" QB. Granted he's no option QB like Miller but he will take off if there's a hole( not Maxwell). Key to the game on both sides is stopping the run. Doubt OSU or MSU will make too many big plays in the air. While Hyde is getting all attention which he deserves nobody is talking much about Langford and his 7 straight 100 yard games. Both teams can run and the key is can either team shut the run down this game. Like you biff I am counting the hours down. I can't wait I'm so jacked up for this game. Might go through a whole fifth of Goose especially if were losing. Haha

Agree that running/stopping the run will be key. My point on Cook is that he's not going to regularly put OSU defenders in the position to make decisions because of his feet - when they have to make a bunch of those decisions, they generally make a bunch of bad ones. And Langford is really impressive.

I've already been to the barber shop and then breakfast discussing this game for hours. Cannot wait. I will pace a couple of miles in my basement. My favorite thing to do for games like this is line up my putt practice area and practice putts during commercials. I've got tons os Christmas Ale, Miller Lite, whisky and a couple of kinds of vodka. The exact recipe will be determined play-by-play.

i have that one right around the number, perhaps a little below. i can't make a strong case for under because of playing in dome and i think that Buckeyes will get around 28. I think it's 28-20, but honestly, 28-24 or even 31-28 wouldn't shock me.

MSU's OL deserves major credit for Cook, Langford and every other advancement in their offense this season. It's been healthy and very productive. Complete 180 compared to last year's patchwork rotation in the trenches.

It'll be interesting to see what Coach D does with the Cook/Terry situation in the years to come. I've never seen him glow over a scout team player quite like he does re: Terry.

Gotcha. No one hated Meyer more than me before he came to Columbus. He's a genuine a-hole, but he's our a-hole, and frankly, if you want to compete on the big stage, the nice-guy-sweater-vest thing won't be getting it done in the age of Saban, Cam Newton, etc.

One of my favorite Meyer stories is from a friend of a friend who is head coach of a local high school. Two years ago, the Thursday night before this coach and his small school were set to play in the Division VII state finals (Ohio's lowest division), he got a 15-minute call from Urban Meyer, who'd just taken the OSU job. Meyer wanted to introduce himself, chat for a bit and wish the coach luck. The guy was taken aback at how gracious and human Meyer was. The best part about the story is that, if Meyer made a 15-minute call to this guy, you can assume safely that he likely made 13 other such calls that day (if he was willing to spend 15 minutes talking to this guy, surely he devoted at least as much attention to the coaches at bigger schools where OSU is likely to actually sign players. I wanted to make a FOIA request of OSU for Meyer's cell phone bill for his first six weeks (the limbo after Meyer's hire but while Fickell still coached for the Gator Bowl), but i'm not interested in creating a pain in the ass for my school. I bet you that phone bill tells quite a story.

I definitely hope to see Sparty in Pasadena, and you're right, MSU-Stanford would be a slobberknocker. I really like Dantonio and it's important to realize that making the Rose Bowl probably would be a real peak in his professional career. Good person, good coach. He deserves it and I hope he gets it.
