I really like the Braves here but not at those odds. I will never ever risk so much on 1.5 odds. So, given the fact that I love the Braves in this spot, I will try the team total again. They just had a great boost of confidence last night, when they had 8 hits with 3 runs against the Phillies, including 2 homers. They are now 12-10 at home after the two W's in a row in the Phillies series, and now will face one of the worst defensive team in the MLB, Houston Astros.
As a team, Braves are hitting a .243, 20th place in the league. One could say that it is not very good for a contender. Well, it is true, but they are producing runs on that low percentage. They scored 177 runs so far, 9th place in the MLB, 4.21 runs/game. On the other side, Astros are hitting a very good .264, 6th overall in MLB but their productivity is extremly low for that %, scoring only 169 runs, 15th place. But my bet is about team total here, and now is the funny part for the Stros. We all know that last year, the Astros had one of the worst pitching staff in the league. It's the same story this year too. They have the second lowest average ERA in the MLB, 4.97, only 18 quality starts, 25th place, the worst WHIP with 1.51 and also the worst BAA, .284. Pretty funny huh?
Pitchers battle:
Tommy Hanson > Great year so far regarding his numbers. Altough he is 4-3 for the season, he has a 2.51 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. He allowed only 14 runs in 45,5 innings of work, and 44 strikeouts so far. Important stuff: his worst game was the first game of the season, so 45 days ago, against the Nationals, in which he allowed 4 runs in 3.2 innings. After that, his stats are 10 runs in 42.3 innings. Impressive.
Brett Myers > As impressive as Hanson stats are, Myers is the exact opposite. He has a 5.01 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. He is 1-3 for the season, allowing 29 runs in 49.4 innings. That is just brutal.
A few trends for this game:- Astros are 31-66 in their last 97 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- Astros are 4-1 in Myers' last 5 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.
- Astros are 6-2 in Myers' last 8 starts vs. a team with a winning record.
- Astros are 15-6 in Myers' last 21 starts following a team loss in their previous game.
- Astros are 2-7 in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
- Braves are 40-18 in their last 58 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
- Braves are 4-0 in Hansons last 4 starts during game 1 of a series.
- Braves are 6-1 in Hansons last 7 Monday starts.
Altough Atlanta is not the best offensive team, they can and will produce runs with Myers on the mound. They have the home field advantage, tho moral advantage after the 2 W's in a row against the Phillies, and you don't have to have 10 hits on this team to score 5 times. The safest bet should be the Braves ML here, but I am not touching those odds.

The odds @ Braves TT are the same, the difference is now the line shows ATL over 4 runs, not over 4.5...hmm..I have a bad feeling about this one altough over 4.5 should hit. We shall see. Short write-up fellas this time. I'm taking Cards here. I just love what Jaime Garcia brings from the mound, and with this Phillies offense, I can't see why he shouldn't have a great game, improving to 6-0 for the season. Oswalt also has a solid season, but I have more faith in Jaime's arm AND Cards batters than just in Oswalt's arm. Because Phillies have no hitter whatsoever.

Going again on the Cardinals in this one. They are coming after a two games sweep against the Phillies, in front of Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt. Now they will face a horrible Astros team, with a 15-27 record, and 2-8 in their last 10 games. Altough their are swinging the bat well, they are last in all major categories in the pitching area: ERA, WHIP and BAA. As a team, Cardinals has a great offense, being leaders in batting average, .285, and until yesterday they were leader in total runs scored, 222 runs. The starting pitcher for the Cardinals will be Kyle Lohse, one of the top arms this season, with a 4-2 record, a 2.31 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP. The Stros pitcher will be Bud Norris, who allowed 7 runs in his last two games on 12 hits. Altough I would like to pound St. Louis in this one, I have a feeling that Lohse will have a tough game tonight. I will go on over 4 runs @ 1.95 for the Cardinals. They may win 7-1 or something like that, but all the bettors now that when they have a bad feeling about a heavy home favs, they should listen to that feeling.
