        Well played sir!
Missed your plays because of the time zone difference.

Earlier in the thread (around page 5), you made the point that the public like to back a pitcher to bounce back after a bad game. Your point was that it was a fair selection for a star pitcher, but a great fade opportunity for an average pitcher. Did you feel that today with Hughes and the Yankees?

The Yankee game selection was rooted in the fact giving the Yankees +1.5 frightened the masses and the squares came running after. Remember, the selections are contrarian in nature. Also, you have to strongly consider the fact, that the Yankees previous games were all in the Bronx. Playing in Beantown, is just a tad different. The same thing in the Phillie game. Giving 1.5 runs to the Reverend Cliff Lee, is crazy crazy. We know better.

Big Ben strikes 8 o clock, and the U.K. Tower reports for duty, still smug after yesterdays success
Many thanks Pair o, and congrats all Contarians

Well done Sir. I accept my punishment and hit the Braves! Bingo.

Thank you kindly. The New Zealand tower is back in operation.

I love this thread. Looks like winners on a daily basis. I love being a contrarian. Just never really could pick out the complete jewels. Come someone explain to me the meaning of CDDP?

CDDP stands for Contrarian Double Dog Play. What we do is select two underdogs with value, looking to cash at least one, for positive units on the day.

Good morning Contrarians, the Contrarian Obsvervation Tower is open. Very successful day yesterday. The CDDP hit on all cylinders, cashing for +7 units. Additonally, we make a play on the Under 7 Padres, they suspend the game in the ninth to resume today, unfortunately that cancels the play. That sucks, bet that's show business. Just remember all our games are monitored on my site with complete records. PM for details.

I was reading through some of your old posts and noticed that you generally stop capping MLB at the half way point of the season (unless I misunderstood). Just out of curiosity, I was wondering why you only cap half of the MLB season?

                                          Selection

Last night in late innings the Phillies had bases loaded and hit into a double play. The Braves first basemen snared a line drive that would of scored runs for the Phillies. Tonight it will be different. Oswalt is pitching as if he were 25 again. NOT. We go contrarian

We picked up 4 units, last night by cashing with the Braves. We risked 1.08 units today with our play.

                                          Braves -108 (1 unit)

Stopping at the beginning to end of September would not be the half way point of the season as poster, Love The Action, alluded to.

We need clarification from the tower. Do you stop at the half way point (July) or the beginning/end of September?

I believe Sir clarified by stating September. I was referring to the very first post in this thread in which Sir stated that this thread stops someway around half way through the season. I was just curious and did not want to get off topic from the issues at hand - i.e. beating the books with our contrarian thinking.

Speaking of which, I like the Royals to top Detroit today. Phil Coke....I think not. With 70% of the masses on Detroit, I like our contrarian chances.

Love the Atlanta pick, which is backed up by the line movement so far despite 75% on Philly. Good luck to all!

You're en fuego 5's! Keep smokin' 'em!

If anyone happens to be looking at the A's at Minn - a friend who likes Gio Gonzales has asked me to send him my take on all his starts - so for what it's worth:

Gio will be matched up with Nick Blackburn rather than Scott Baker as we thought a few days ago.

The early line is just about a pick - at 5 Dimes it's -107 Blackburn and -103 Gio.

Blackburn is an upgrade from Baker. He's got one of the better sinkers in the league - gets a ton of ground balls with it and with his change. Like Gio - he's coming off a win (vs Toronto) in his first start. Overall, I'd still have to give it to Gio as the better pitcher with more ways to get guys out - but the problem for the A's in this game is not the pitching matchup - it's the current team dynamic and the overall lineup superiority of the Twins - plus the tremendous home field advantage the Twins have at Target.

Last nght was a crushing loss for OAK as Brett Anderson was pitching the best game of the year until the 8th and MINN came back to win 2-1. A game like that leaves a mark - often has strong carry over on both sides.

MINN won 18 of 26 home series last year and had the best home record in the AL (53-28). They are very hard to beat up there. The A's were 2-5 at Target last year and are now 0-1 for 2011. And although the Twins have had a slow start with the bats this year - Gio has really struggled vs these hitters in the past. The guys in the heart of their lineup (Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Span, Young) have all crushed him and are very confident against him.

Another big plus for MINN is that their closer Joe Nathan appears to be back in form after elbow surgery. He got the save last night and it appears he'll be available again tonight.

One bright spot in the matchup for the A's is that they have hit Blackburn pretty well in the past also - esp Ellis - but looking at this game overall I can't say there's any value in laying -103. The Twins deserve to be a favorite here at home. I'd put it at Minn -120 to -125, Oakland +110 to +115.

Anything can happen - Gio could pitch the game of his life or Blackburn could get shellacked - but basis the fair value coming in you're not getting the best of it with Gio at less than even money. If you go with him today I'd make it for just a peanut.

Vegas Insider says 83% on the OVER and the number already went from 9 to 8.5. Do you tend to lay off these kinds of games just because there is too much uncertainty?
